The plugin is on sale for a few days at $79. Any happy users can comment? I've always had my eye on it, but thanks to my Softube Console 1 I'm on a quest to cut down the amount of plugins, so unless it does something essential and magic, I will pass.

You have to wonder what the difference in all these plugs are...just how many compressors do we need? lol Just saying after a while, I forget which freaking plugs I have now.

LOL Yeah, when they are analog and you patch them in manually, you seem to get an affinity for their individual personalities. When they are plugs, that unique personality that each unit offers seems to blur a bit, eh?? Maybe part of it is the physicality of how the knobs are laid out, the metering, etc. I dunno, but there's definitely a different vibe using hardware.

Yes, it all comes down to this - do we believe that plugins can EXACTLY model hardware? DO WE? No we don't!!!

For me, the more realistic the GUI the sweeter the sound.

Maybe part of it is the physicality of how the knobs are laid out, the metering, etc. I dunno, but there's definitely a different vibe using hardware. Some are better than others. I've got some very lovely hardware compressors and the software compressors I own that are stand out are, Softube CL1B for Powercore (Powercore being significantly better than the native version) I've used a CL1A/B many times and the Powercore plugin in the lower GR range is extremely close. Excellent. UAD LA2A and 1176 MK2 are also truly stand out. Sonoris Mastering Compressor - a stunning digital tool for mastering - not cheap but very good and preferable to analogue actually in my book. The rest in my collection (with the excpetion of Fabfilter as a general purpose compressor/ducker) are, as you point out, much of a muchness and all sound very similar. It's interesting to note these decent software compressors cost me a fair amount of money and were my most expensive plugins, so I guess the rule of you get what you pay for applies to digital too. Going forward, I'm not buying anymore software processing, I'm only going to invest my limited budget in hardware, next being a Serpent Audio Splice MK2 - your recommendation for an 1176 :-)
