Not bad, not the sound of a Classic Jazz nor an Alembic, it's own thang!

I like them.....you don’t have to use them active, so if that’s not your bag, just keep the active circuitry off. The mia Fenders are great.

What’s the word about these, very good deal locally on a very young Jazz with rosewood Mia but active pick ups? Thx! Well, I'm going to have to differ with most everybody so far - Go for a Fender passive, avoid the actives. There are a number of reasons. First, they're really passive basses with rather mediocre active electronics added. Second, from what I've been told by people who own them, you can't disable the active electronics on some models, notably some MIM ones. Why they would do that I don't know. Third, those active electronics in the hands of somebody who is less than experienced can get you into serious trouble in the studio, causing problems that are all but impossible to correct downstream. Fourth, they don't do anything that outboard EQ can't do better. And then if there's a problem with the electronics you don't have to give up yopu instrument while the problem is getting fixed. If you really want active electronics in your passive bass,. go for something of quality, like the Bartolini modules. If you want an active bass because you want the benefits of active pickups (low noise, high output, etc.) the Fenders are not what you want because they don't actually have active pickups.

oh so you can defeat the A electronics and play normal pick ups ? Defeating the active electronics on my ADJV doesn't sound the same as my 66RI or a number of 70's basses I've played. Not bad in passive, but not the same.

I have one of the new American Elite P basses. Thought it'd be cool having the additional jazz pickup and the option for passive or active. Outside of effect I use it passive in the P bass mode 99% of the time. Great bass though. Fender is making some great guitars again.

Similar situation with me and the P bass. I wasn't really looking to get another bass but picked one up in GC while waiting for someone and was impressed enough to get one. I was slightly worried the one I ordered wouldn't have the same mojo but was pleasantly surprised when it did. A client also picked up a new mia slimline Tele with equally great results. I don't know if we both got lucky or it's just a good Fender year.

I just like USA Fender in general.
Haven't tried the new ones, though.
As a main bass, I'd probably shoot for passive. But an active is nice to have around (I have one, Ibanez).
