Hey dudes.
What's a good, not-too-expensive, weighted MIDI controller?
Other things I'm reading seem to point to the Fatar Studiologic Sl-990 as a good relatively budget option.
Can get them for a few hundred bucks used.
Any other suggestions?

Still using the weighted Roland A-80. That & the Yamaha KX-88 were the way to go. The weighted keys are pretty nice but I'm sure there are more technically advanced stuff now if you can't get them used for a good price.

My Arturia Keylab88 has a great feel and is a very nice controller. Not sure if the smaller keybed would be weighted the same.

If you want a great slab-piano type of thing as a controller, and a basic standalone piano, my favorite is the mid to high end Yamaha stuff.
I have a CP33 I got a great deal on, I feel lucky to own it.

I guess that’s another related question.
Is it better to just find some older workstation with good weighted action?
I’m just gonna be using it to control Keyscape so the onboard stuff isn’t very important to me.
The Fatar Studiologic 990 one seems hard to beat at $300ish used? Supposedly good action?

The action is such a personal thing. Are you able to try out a bunch anywhere?

I can fake it pretty well with overdubs and editing. But my standards aren’t that high for perfect action. I just don’t like tracking piano with my non-weighted MPK-49.

Being in the same boat, I will be watching closely to see what you end up with.

Not a player, but every player I have known has ended up with a workstation because the action and build of every dedicated controller they tried just felt cheap!

So I'm probably going to grab the Studiologic SL990 Pro I was first talking about. Simple, no frills and the weighted hammer action is universally praised as very good. This is perhaps a silly question but, a little MIDI interface like this will work, right? The SL990 doesn't have USB out. www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UMOneMk2It's got two MIDI connectors so I assume I'll just leave one of them dangling or taped up to the other line.

The Yamaha MX88 is the new one to beat, in my opinion. It seems they took the basic piano, and upgraded it with some really nice e-piano sounds, etc.... the piano I've been dreaming of...sigh. There's always next year.

Yeah I just don't wanna spend that much. I can get the SL 990 for like $300. And I don't need whatever I use to have any sounds of its own, I'll pretty much exclusively be using it with Keyscape.

Yeah, I use something similar from Hosa.
