Punk Rock which I don't prefer. It teaches me a lot. Because it's just an experimental song it's not ready for public yet. But I made some interesting observations today.
1. If you want to clamp down the 4 khz guitars plug ins fail to 100 % everytime I try to replace the Hardware.
2. Getting the levels right is a pain in the a. in punk rock.
Mixing at low SPL levels on bad speakers was the solution. Leveling was much easier on my DIY mini speakers - which go from 300Hz to 7 khz...switching back to the Genelecs was just wow.
3. Get that 3 D snare bigger than live snare.
Puh in the end I crushed the room mono mic with the Gyraf G SSL and used Logics stereo delay on it. The direct signal got some EQ, FG-Stress , Midiverb1 Programm 2. That did the trick to me.
To be continued.

Punk is 99.99999999999% tracking, everybody in the room at once nail the vibe, you don't mix it you ride the huge sonic wave of distortion!

Yeah if you dont have that, and that ist the rule for young bands today, you need to fake it.

But then there are those clueless guys who post at that other place who think they can do punk rock on a computer in their bedroom with fake amps....

What most young and dare I say, aspiring Punk Rock bands fail to notice, is how very tight most of the better punk acts were. The Ramones were a frickin' machine live. Green Day has the tightest timing I've ever heard. Not just their records, but live.

We are still talking real players real gear... only exception it's overdubbed. I think I can get close as long the band nails the aesthetic. Tracking it in one room would be better sure. But low budget is low....and for a fun project...I have no worries to take a few missing links. Anyway I just wanted to share my experience with you guys...nothing important....

im just asking because it seems like vastly different things old punk is messy, lofi, new punk is in yo face punchy, Seemed like a reasonable question as far as engineering goes More the modern thing. Hardest Part to me is the snare sound and the guitars. Guitars the mistakes start while tracking. I just have two amps a few diffrent pedals a strat and a tele as well a LP. To get the guitars sitting tight in spot, is not an easy task to me.
