RGOs.
Got a great local offer on a MD 421 N for 180 bucks orginal old grey one. But something is crazy. There are 3 LEDs mounted in the grill on the middle steel frame.
The seller claims this was a gemran broadcast version without the Sennehiser Logo?
Does anybody knows if this story holds true? If it is true, why the hell German BSS wanted to have three LEDs in it?
Cheers.

I could certainly see a broadcaster mod for standby / program / live and what not, but AFAIK, there was never a model introduced with LED's.

LEDs weren't even around when the original MD421 came out, itself a bass variable roll-off modded version of the MD21
I wouldn't go as far as to say they didn't exist, but for all practical purposes they pretty much did NOT exist. And their cost would have been sky high.
Chances are, it was a mod done in the 80s or 90s
And thus the value is perhaps severely diminished

They were generally experimental, expensive, and unreliable. And red. Only red (and infrared.) And not very bright. Leds suitable for indicators and readouts became practical and affordable in the early '70s, but output was till quite low.
