Yes. They have a problem with random latency, at least in the Clarett Octopre. Look up my post about it...

I own a Clarett 8pre. I think the Converters sound pretty good. One thing annoys me A LOT, the line inputs are padded, so line level is somewhere between 2 and 3, it's hard to set it up perfectly, I personally think this is really stupid and I can't understand why they did this. The preamps are meh at best, I also own an Audient asp880 and I find the preamps and converters sound much better and there is a true line level input that bypasses completely the preamps. If you're in Europe the prices are pretty similar... The DA sounds decent on the Clarett, I used to own Lynx Aurora 16 and haven't noticed a drop off in quality. No DA on the Audient...

hmm. thanks for the replies guys,
the audient was my want but it is twice the price of the clarett octopre in Australia at the moment.
I read that focusrite has replicated your DA issue. i'm primarily wanting the octopre for the AD side and the utility preamps as it will be more for remote recording.
I thought the mic pres could be bypassed via the inserts. will need to think about this a bit more I think,
I will be plugging the octopre into my current scarlett 18i8 so also need to look into if that is possible as well.

Reading the Scarlett manual the 18i8 only allows 4 channels via adat at 96k so half the clarett would go to waste.

Same for the Audient. The Presonus DP88 will do 96k for around $700.

Just noticed your 18i8 is the problem. Disregard.

I am using a DP88 at 96K right now for only four channels, because my Apollo Twin only has one optical port. Kind of annoying what I paid for it, but the DP88 is a great ADC, with true line inputs.
I really like the Clarett, I have two of them. It's my main monitoring DAC, headphone amp. My second one is a mobile thing.
I am using the 8x8 analog I/O for hybrid mixing. Which honestly I don't do a lot of.
I guess in my little world it's Apollo / Clarett / Presonus DP88 / Tascam UH-7000 you can mix and match those in a dozen different ways to get what I am after. I like them each for slightly different reasons.
At this point I'm fully Thunderbolt for the main interfaces, which I am a big fan of. I can get 2-3 ms round trip latency pretty easily for, say, tracking a virtual guitar.

the clarett is currently only $800 aud so it's hard to ignore. paired with my current scarelett i think gives me a possible 14 channels as the scarlett also has spdif.
i was also thinking an audient id22. gives me 10 channels now with possible 14 total. looking towards making the audient the central hub and getting an aurora 8 down the track that would give me 10 channels.
been looking round and a dark horse has entered the fray. it may be beyond budget but the motu 828es looks pretty good. that could be used into the scarlett now for an extra 4 channels with 2 preamps and become the hub once i sell the scarlett. the motu seems to have nice future proofing with lots i/o technologies and a high spec chip.

There is certainly no shortage of really cool interfaces to shop for, these days!

I was going to say, just save a little more and get a Motu 16a

I was going to say, just save a little more and get a Motu 16a I started looking at the 24ai. I'm not sure but I think I could use the adat out for monitoring.

All of the MOTU inputs and outputs can be used simultaneously. So if you have a way to use the ADAT you can use it / route it with the matrix. I really like my 16A for that.
