I have been playing around with the idea of getting a full range "mini" monitor for tracking and first phase mixing. I've thought about barefoot. Atc. Pmc. All very pricey.
I've thought recently about the dynaudio bm15's. Rather inexpensive in comparison to the former brands mentioned. I guess Bob Ludwig mentioned them as the smallest speaker to accurately reproduce bass.
I've read multiple times that ported cabinets can cause issues with phase coherence. Wondering how these hold up.
I'm gonna try and listen to some in person at sweetwater. .
Just looking for some insight on these guys.
I have ns10's and amphion one 18's. Very different sounding speakers, but a bit redundant at the same time. great for balancing just not as full range as im wanting at times. I'll be using them as a compliment to the amphions. Probably store the yamaha's.

My first monitors were BM5A MKI and they were great for their size (a bit lack of bass but they served me well for more than 10 years).
Sold them to get a great deal on used BM15A. At first they sounded fuller, richer and deeper than Bm5a due to 10" woofer de 2" tweeter. Months later I started noticing lack of definition and phase issues on winds (brass, horns, clarinet, oboe) and vocals when mixing classical and jazz (acoustic music). I thought it was acoustic issues with my room.
I managed to A/B Dynaudio BM15A against Genelec 8020 (yes, small ones) in my room and difference was not subtle. Genelec were clear winners in definition, depth, clarity and what's the most important factor: honesty and even cruelty when something is wrong in the mix. Dynaudio sounded rounded and "nice" but a bit lack of brilliance so I mixed boosting highs.
I sold my BM15A at 10am and I bought Genelec 8040 brand new one hour later. Never looked back.
Maybe my room wasn't big enough for near to mid field monitors like BM15A.
Maybe Genelec is more forgiving about acoustics.
But I've never had issues mixing on Genelec and translating to other systems.
I'm seriously considering getting back my BM5A to have a second set of monitors.
