I always wanted to have one of the Ivory compressors becasue they sound thick and transparent at the same time. But they where 1,2 k Euro in Germany and I was younger and money was not so often there. Later TL Audio went out of business and I was bumfucked.
Today I was out for French food around dessert I got call by a friend. He remeberd that I liked his 5021 12 years ago. He did send me an e-bay link with one unit still running for cheap.
I thought well if someone is crazy enough to set the end of the auction around dinner time. No risk no fun.
My instict told me - max 230 Euro.
I did it. The unit is for 208 Euro now in my rack. WUUUZZZZAAA.
I never understood why some peole bashed TL Audio.

I have never used any TL Audio stuff, but like you always heard it get a horrible rap as one step above the trash heap.

I had some sapre time today and I solderd cables now the thing is running on a LV. I have no idea why back in the days of 1999-2003 people bashed TL Audio. The 5021 sounds clean and makes the LV sound expensive. If you drive it harder you get some pleasing artifacts but ntohing you would call distortion or unpleasing to the ear. I have a hard time to make it sound bad. I dont understand internt bashers. It must be the case that they never used the gear they are talking about. I would have given my left leg 15 years ago to have such an expensive LV sound. Anyway. Does it harm the units sound that it still contains the first tubes from 1999???
