I had this problem weeks ago, and after trying all sorts of things, my sends worked, but I'm not sure why they didn't work in the first place. I opened a session this morning, reverb sends were fine. I recorded a vocalist, saved the session, and when I went to bounce, the reverb wasn't working. I shut down, restarted, still not working. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? I looked online, but couldn't find a clear answer. Attachments:

In that pic, you didn't solo your sends.
Solo the region, not the track. Basically, never use the solo buttons in the mixer.

HI Chuck, thanks, it's good to hear from you. I just happened to try soloing at that moment, the sends aren't working when there are no solo buttons pushed.

You’ve inserted the reverb plug-ins on audio tracks instead of using the auxiliary channels.
When you solo a track they will get muted.
I would recommend that you replace the audio tracks with aux channels instead.
This way your audio path – all the way to the stereo output – will get soloed, including your reverb channels.

Yes, I ran into this issue on a recent project(my friend uses Logic X) and you must go through the menus to create the right aux tracks - it's a little strange to me that that is the only way to create a send return but thats how it works.

Just use the Sends selector on the Audio Track directly and assign it to a Bus that doesn't exist yet in the project. Logic will automatically create the Aux Track, and set that Aux's input to the correct Bus number. I've rarely if ever used the menus in the mixer window to 'create new aux track', which I believe is what you're suggesting. |

I got it! Somehow I had the reverbs on audio tracks, and not Aux tracks. They looked like typical bus channels, but I removed those channels, added Aux channels, popped on the plug-ins again, and now it's fine. I have no idea how I made that happen.
I create them the way Chuck suggested, I had no idea there was a "create an Aux track" way to do it.

Man, I can't even tell that those tracks are NOT aux tracks on the far right of your mixer. that guy must be looking for something specific.

Can someone tell me why AUX is not an option for the type of track you want to create in the track creation dialogue box? I'm not sure why you have to go about it through the send area of a track only.

I'm gonna guess they(Apple Engineers) want you to automate send levels to auxes, and not automate any parameters on the aux channels themselves, even tho they give you the option to Create Track for Channel in the mixer for any channel.

Well, it's true that in many cases that you don't want to move around your send level, however I do this tonssssssssss in some styles. For instance, if you want a delay to appear only on the last word of each phrase of a verse, you have to pull your send to the delay all the way down, then push it up for that last word and back down. Or even parts of words. Same with reverb. Check out Loud Reed on Perfect Day on Transformer. The verses are ultra dry and in your face, then the choruses they really push up that fader that goes to the EMT plate verb. I'm not sure I would call it a special effect, but touches in level to delays and reverb and parallel auxes seem to help a song ebb and flow from verses to choruses etc. Some styles though it is less common. It really depends. Just another tool though. Save |

I automate sends all the time - can be a great effect. Give a listen to D’angelo’s last record. All sorts of automated stuff happening, can really pull you into a mix. |

achase4U, let's say I did want to add a delay to the last word of a line. I could set the delay where I want, turn it off, and then go to automation and just turn it on and off at the right moment. Later you can fine tune the automation.
Wouldn't bringing the fader down and back up, which is trickier, be more prone to mistakes?
