I'm basically using Massenberg's Premiere preset....with the snare switched for the Ayotte you used in "tight"....and the hat switched to the 17" masterworks. I think I also took away the dynamic overheads--pumped everything to the condensers instead. Mainly, though....I started with his because he did all the time compensation and polarity adjustment for us. I know there's a purist thing where people don't want to time compensate....and I get that. I'm of the belief that's one of the few sonic advantages to working in digital....being able to time compensate multiple mics. I considered putting my working preset up today....but, then---these presets contain the whole routing. I'm not listening in stereo. I've got it all bussed to half the outputs into Cubase. I think if you open mine in stereo you'll hear just a kick drum. You'll have to reroute everything back to stereo.....and the balances are set in Cubase, too--since I want it to render at full volume....anyway--all told, I thought it might be as confusing as helpful just dropping it "as is". I'll be glad to share what I'm doing with it, though.... In general, some observations: the built in plug ins weren't making me happy, so I subbed it out. I left the little resonance cuts George made....I trust his familiarity with the kit and mics, but for any "personal coloring" I'm doing it in Cubase like I have for anything. Kramer tape on the snare top...SPL Transient Designer on toms and overheads set to -3 or -4db sustain--subtle. Slate VCC2 across all the subs. Neve on kick, API on everything else. I'm running it down without the DSP and with....right now, I'm feeling like the modeling stuff running at session rate is contributing a nice "size" to it, but I've done this kind of thing before and smacked myself later. It's being recorded as audio, cuz audio is forever. We'll see how this side/EP goes....as to whether I continue to print that stuff.

Here are three of my own tinkeration... I feel like a dufus here but how do I open/import these? They are showing up as text edit documents. Also while you're educating me, where does SD3 put the kit presets so I can upload mine? Thanks!

The answer is the same--you have to know where it puts them and put these there.
It's in the documents library in windows under a Toontrack folder. I would assume the same on OSX, but I only have SD2 installed in the Mac.

My presets were - if I can remember - Mac--Users--library--application support--toontrack or maybe superior drummer 3 then presets? I'll double check. I think they ARE text docs though...

Found the presets I’ve been saving in my documents folder and they’re all .tfx files (whatever that stands for, Toontracks maybe). Anyway, I dropped your files in there and tried to load them to no avail. Any ideas? I hope we can build a really cool list of RGO presets in here so I want to figure this out! I’m still playing around with mine just a touch but will upload my “go to” kit thus far tomorrow.

when I get in front of my comp I'll find the path,..I think it's very specific in the applications folder...found this though...
"To use the preset, just click 'Load Project' from the 'Load/Save' drop down menu and select the preset from the folder you have it saved!"

Has to be dropped in the specific folder to show up in the user presets list....and that folder is hidden (by default of OS)in OSX. So, you either type the path into "go to folder" or you run the terminal Sudo command line to show hidden files.
the files you get from "save as" in the main project Window are project files--all the Tracker and beat data....input side eKit mappings AND the drum kit. Saving the drum kit+mixer is in the same menu you select their presets.

Here's a quick little demo of one of my presets in a track. All processing and balancing of the drums are being done inside SD3 with stock sounds. I do have Ozone 7 on the track just so you can hear what it'll sound like when it's mastered. soundcloud.com/user-841879432/sd3-drum-demo-countrySounds good, Bart. If anything I wouldn't mind hearing a little more space on that snare. Other than that it's mint.

And yes, a little spank on the snare a little more of the close room would help that snare out. I might would even layer one that has a little ring to it.

I like a ringy snare with this type of music.

I'd actually like to hear less 1khz in that snare...more bottom thud...but all of this is SO subjective...

Havent gotten SD3 yet, but those drums don’t have that same smackyness SD 2 drums have, even though they’re plenty alive. That’s much easier to work with I would assume.

The SD3 stuff just sounds like...drums. Totally up to you what you do with them from there. Just like mic’ing a real kit. I haven yet to get off the Indiependent library, though one of these days I’m gonna use some of the Massenburg stuff.

I've had SD2 for a long time and finally decided to take the plunge on SD3 a few weeks back. I haven't had a chance to get into it too deeply yet but my initial impressions are it's quite an improvement over SD2 ...and I really love SD2. The easy access to individual pieces of other kits makes my brain smile. I need to sit and watch some of the tutorial videos but even with just my feet in the shallow end of the pool thus far, I'm really glad I jumped in.

It’s pretty overwhelming how many options there are for editing and tweaking sounds and kits. Just limitless.
