Hey dudes.
My wife's folks have a really nice place they built some years ago and there are 6 rooms wired up with a pair of ceiling mounted speakers each.
I found them a nice Sonamp 1250 for a power amp but I need a preamp.
Doesn't need to be amazing, but I'd like it to be decent.
I've got no hifi knowledge whatsoever really.
What should I get them into?

What should I get them into? If your in-laws are smartphone savvy I would use a Sonos connect to drive the buss input of the amp. If you want to break out rooms into their own zones add an other Connect to the input for that amp channel.

Their music is all CDs but I could get that stuff copied into one of their computers. Does the Sonos stuff have integrated preamps then? I'll have a look around their site.

Rip it all to a NAS and sonos will scan the drive that way you don't have to have a full pc running all the time to have your music. The connect is sonos' player unit. No amp, no speakers just RCA outs and one input.

Also, I'm a little unclear on what the 'input' on the Connect is receiving.

Correct you don't need anything else in between the connect and the amp. The input is used for a CD player, cable box, ect... We generally use them for cable boxes so people can have the game on everywhere. You select the input from the app.
