... and a friendly reminder that they are still available new from Japan for under $250 USD www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_productid=69807811&rt=nc&_sop=15&isRefine=true&LH_ItemCondition=1000&sl_ready=trueI'm about to buy a second one to go with the one I bought 18 months ago. I keep seeing forum references to the ATM25 with posters saying how much they like the ATM25 but it's sad it's discontinued! In the US maybe but NOT in Japan. Does anyone know why Audio Technica USA states the ATM25 as being discontinued? Kinda curious to know the answer to that.

They were one of the few AT Dynamics that survived getting an HE ( N/D upgrade like the snare counterpart ATM23 then ATM23HE. AT USA marketed the 2way ATM250 as the replacement but it is nothing like the 25. For a few years they did offer a reissue in the states. Don't get the Pro25 confused, looks similar and is a heck of a lot cheaper but sounds cheap! ATM25 has a sound you either love it or hate it.

Yes, the ATM25 was supposed to be a kick mic, but it sounds terrible on kick (to me) but I love it on toms and just about nothing else!

I think that was part of the problem ATUS knew how to sell a one trick Kick mic, but not a tom mic, the street was around $150 57's were $79 , Beta $129 , MD421 $250. All three were work horses, think of your first mics, would you want a bunch of mics that only were useful on toms?

Before you write it off on Kick drum - I gotta say... I shot out my ATM25 against several other kick mics, and the ATM25 takes EQ on kick better than any of the others I tried. Best kick sound I've ever achieved is with the ATM25 through an API 550a. Just killer. And yes - they are fantastic on toms.

I would still like to hear it from the horses mouth why they are listed by AT USA as discontinued when in fact AT has never stopped manufacturing them.
