We got on to pro tools 12 in a converter discussion in another thread. I'm fidgety to make the jump from 10, which is rock solid on my system.
Anyone running 12 and, if so, how's your experience so far?

Everybody I know who is running HDX or HD Native is happy on 12. 10 on HDX is going to limit your plugin choices as it isn't HDX 64 bit. Like I said keep your main install as is and create a second boot drive with 12, if you have problems you can go back with few worries.

Sierra here. No crashes on 12.6. Just haven't gotten around to .7 yet. Being able to freeze tracks and AUX's is badass.

Thanks again y'all. 1 last query... I know you're on a big HD rig with lots of I/O DOC. Anyone else? You guys Native or HD? Nobody on a bigger HD rig having any session killing issues? And yeah, ericn , I think I'll do the dual drive to start.

Yes aax32 and aax (64) are different . Extensions. You should be able to upgrade everything seemlessly once you transfer over. I was going to test 12.4 or 12.5 ( one of those ) after our brief discussion in the other thread to give you feedback, however just got a new client so I'm tied up with mixes.. can test in a couple days..
OS X Lion PT 10.3.1 native OS X El Capitan 12.4/12.5 native
The other studio I work out of is on PT HD 10.3 still running BLA 192's with a C24 and everything running well with HW inserts and tracking sesssions. I also think that PT 10 is the last version that works with the c24...

I've been running Logic lately, but I have one partition with Yosemite and PT 12.4 and another with Sierra and PT12.7. I let my support plan run out back in December but my old PT7.3 & 9.0 projects opened and played back perfectly in PT12, so I assumed all was good. Then I tried tracking some stuff. Oops, random clicks throughout the tracks. Switched to Logic, perfect audio. Switched to MOTU's AudioDesk, not a click to be found. Back to PT12, cick-click-pop. Switch back to the Yosemite partition, clicks in any newly recorded PT tracks, back to Logic/AudioDesk, perfect audio. Hm, never really had audio issues with PT 7.3 - 9.0, I suppose I should dig into trouble shooting, maybe re-install but with the three other DAWs working perfectly on both OS's, I'm just not real enthusiastic about fiddling with PT. Maybe Avid doesn't like my MOTU 16A?

Tried pt on Windows for 2 years and it just never jived with me.

I'm on 12.7.1 HD using a Mutec ASIO interface with no problems although I'm allergic to MIDI and I use Windows 10.

I am using PTHD 12.5.2 with Core Audio [still using an Apogee Symphony mk1 with An 8x8 with AES only module] And, so far so good...however, I am not really a power user. Though, I have other producers using my rig, who go way beyond me. Its rocking out. 8-core mac has been a beast for me. Stable as a Granite Table..Unless you overuse it.
Anyway, When I loaded PT12 up for the first time, I tested its efficiency and power with stacking Plugs on my machine. I had 2000+ plugs running with like 17% cpu. I stopped thinking about it after that. WAYYY more DSP headroom than PT10 on my same machine. My rig is parked at 64 sample buffer [usually 24/44] but I sometimes increase that when mixing.
However, usually on my sessions I never touch the buffer. I can do so much, with so little. HDX with PTHD 12 is a beast though, as it actually uses more Native Power than just when using Native Alone.

I think I'm using 12.4 on El Capitan, 2016 i7 Macbook with an Apollo. Fast and lean. Hickups, crashes and CPU overloads are in the history books for me. Love how fast everything is. Upgrading was not fun though. That made me cuss for at least a couple days.
