Looks like they're offering $700 trade in for a MKI chassis if you buy a MKII.
Wonder if this will make MKI owners feel less shittily treated?

Is the mk1 chassis the one that has the fan noise and heat issues? Mk2 has one or two HP outs? I know Symph converters are very " musical " How are the mk2 converters? Sound wise or direction wise?
Other converter considerations: Avid HD I/o -> sound amazing but old tech A new Apollo... not BF Apollo, the new one they will probably release soon. Motu 16A line -> sound quality ? Drivers ? Ppl praise these... tell me more
What else is there converter wise? No thanks on antelope for me! Prism, DAD, Merging and Burl = 2 much $$$. Focusrite Rednet ( not running avb or Ethernet or 64 channels )..
Like the Symph and Apollo cuz of the built in monitoring features, where as Avid I would need a monitor controller..
So could anyone answer the ?s in my post above regarding Symph mk1 and mk2?
I really do like my UAD plugs so then I would need a octo if the Apollo goes......

Reluctantly I am looking into Symph mk2 / mk1, yes I said it! Can anyone answer my ?'s from above post? I much preferred the Symphony MKII to the Avid IO in the AB posted elsewhere here. A buddy and I also blind AB'd his BF Apollo to his Avid 8x8x8 and we both picked the BF Apollo. I mean, obviously many like the current Avid conversion and you could make a world class record on any of this stuff.

I edited my post because I thought it would be more clear but it made it more confusing so I just deleted it...
I thought JK had sold an Apollo before... I was trying to ask the same as JK, if I were to sell the SF Apollo what could I expect to receive ?
Have a bunch of Symph questions I was asking above ...

A SF duo is worth about $1,000-1200, a SF quad is worth $1200-1400. You normally won't get more that .30-.50 on the dollar for plug ins.
But remember that the Sf with a tbolt card is what the window's guys need.
There are a lot of window's users at UA forum now.

Only if you populate both slots with Converter cards the fan kicks up more often. Never goes on with a single 8x8 module. Though they had a vent panel mod that helped the unit's cooling. The Class A converters run hot, if you want top notch audio you gotta keep them cool. Not much of a problem for anyone other than a guy with a microphone in front of it. I wouldn't sweat it and don't with my unit. I have one of the very first ones ever made, woot. One, that is higher powered. Personally, I like the two HP outs on the MK1. For sure, but the only thing they really changed about the Mk2 cards is the ADC and if you want to call it a change - To the DAC - they changed the driver output circuitry. The DA is identical to MK1 cards other than that. They made the AD cleaner sounding IMHO, and less tape-like around the upper mids. I kinda like the Mk1 AD better. But I am more use to it. For Accurate/clean I bypass Apogee products all together. I wouldn't call it amazing. I would say the difference between the 192 and the HD I/O is amazing. But I don't think the current crop HD I/O is "amazing" at all. Have not heard the new DAD interface yet though. Could be a lot better and more magical. It probably is, since everyone who uses the DAD unit raves it up. No clue on these, but the Mark of the Uniform stuff is pretty "vanilla" at best. Me either...On the Highest end, I am in love the JCF, Merging, and Radar ADA converters. Using the Apogee for like 6 years is OK, but I bought myself a Merging Hapi with an ADA8 card for "clean" high sample rate recordings. These converters destroy my Apogee. I hate using the same converters on the mix down and mastering. I much prefer using another set of AD/DA for that. Have not tried the Rednet, but the Prism is on another level. We have two Atlas interfaces with DIO cards here at the studio and they are really great. Insane spec on these machines. And you can hear it. If you are into super clinical clean AD/DA these are awesome. Plus Prism writes great software and stable drivers. Another one to suggest would be the Lynx Hilo if you only need a few channels [plus some boutique fancy shit to strap on the AES/EBU ports] If you get an HD system, you could just get an Omni, not the sexist option on the block but gets the job done. I really don't see why people need HD these days, besides HDX cards. Avid is making me fall asleep lately. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Looks like they're offering $700 trade in for a MKI chassis if you buy a MKII. Wonder if this will make MKI owners feel less shittily treated? No, it doesn't. Apogee will always be on my "They Suck" list. Why? By not porting their new Control Software - or at least some version of it - to the MK1. By not supporting firmware updating on the MK1 beyond OS X 10.9. By not making the MK2 backwards compatible with the AO16 card, which of course I own.
If I hadn't already blown my budget for 2017, 2018, and 2019 on monitors and a computer, I'd be running Focusrite Red on Dante right now.
BUT, I successfully updated the MK1 to the latest Sierra compatible revision, and it is stable hanging off the Mac Pro - and a great sounding interface, after all. 8 line in, 24 line out, its been a part of my workflow for a while now and I must admit, it does Rock.
The short story is, I'd be participating in the trade-in program if the AO16 card worked in the MK2 chassis. So, they suck.

WHERE IS THE TRADE-IN PROGRAM YOU GUYS ARE TALKING ABOUT??? I just got an email about it yesterday. From Apogee. Check your spam folder? Is your Symphony registered with Apogee so they'd have your email?
