I've had the Oxford Transmod since it came out , what is that like 12 years ?? And never really used it . Tonight I tried it and its not fair . Its TOO EASY to get punchy drums with these things . It went from sounding kinda wimpy to Tommy Lee suddenly beating the hell out of the drums . A guy at a studio told me years back the transmod plugin is the Auto-Tune for drums .
Geesh.......kids have it easy these days in the studio .

A transient control is one of the functions built into Softube's console 1 and its 3 channel strips and yes I too am impressed.

I noticed the improvement in Matt's drum sound since he got the Console 1, so I guess I should look into this.

I am also opening up and using Logic's Producer kits so I can tweak individual parts ( Kick, snare and overheads).

Hmm.. do you mean Logic's choice of Drummers? I use Superior Drummer, and only on rare occasions have I found Logic's drummer to be useful. If I had nothing else, Logic's drummer does sound really good though.

No, in logic you can pick the expanded Producer kits, which spreads out the entire kit and percussion elements across multiple channels (10-15), including, a punch and or parallel processing channel.
So, you can tweak individually, each element of the stereo drum sound.

We have a hardware 4 channel SPL Transient designer. I still find it more intuitive than a plugin for dialling in just the right amount of attack/sustain.

It is like cheating! But I also forget to use it most of the time, haha, I guess I'm playing fair. Sometimes the drum sound does need some steroids.

It's easy to find a great drummer using great sounding drums so it's just a matter of putting a good mic and press record. We also know many great drummers who don't care about drums quality but can make them sound nice (not great).
S***ty drummers tend to use s***ty drums despite thinking they play and sound great so transient plugins are a must.
I tend to use them in parallel with extreme EQ settings or an exciter and a heavy limiter. Individual transient plugin for each drum i need to process (kick, snare, ride, tom...) Mix to taste.
