One of my previous students asked me a question about Sing a Song and I became curious myself. He was wondering how the lead vocals were not overly effected but the BGV's were just soaked in reverb and why. Of course the simple answer was engineers choice or it felt right at the time but I was wondering if anyone here had any insight into it. I was thinking with it being 1975 and engineers pushing the limits of technology that maybe someone got a new reverb box or something. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? I was listening to it off of Spotify from the 1975 album Gratitude.

I just saw that this was engineered by George Massenburg who I love. (Joshua Judges Ruth) Anyone know George?

It's not the engineer's choice. It's what the producer and artist want. An engineer's job is to find a way to give them what they want that sounds good.
