Anybody had any problems with any of the Fredenstein Bento 500 series power supplies? I'm kicking around getting either the Bento 6S or possibly the Bento 10.
Has anybody compared it to any of the Radial racks like the Workhorse or Sixpack? I get that feature sets may be different between the Bentos and various other racks but what I'm really interested in is comparisons of build quality, reliability, no noise, etc.

I have a bento 10 that has been great. Zero issues. Build quality is great, no noise etc. I'll probably be getting another at some point.
I can only compare it to a Lindell 6 slot chassis that I also have. The Lindell had issues three times, requiring either repair or replacement, but is now working great. The bento, on the other hand, worked flawless out of the box

Bento looks like a good deal but a CAPI 11 space and either Jeff or Danderloo's PSU's are the best bargains. No better project for learning to solder!

I've just got too many other diy projects on my plate at the moment. For now, I just want to pull a rack out of the box and plug it in. Also, it looks like the Bentos used to maybe be more expensive? Is anybody aware of a price drop occuring?

Never noticed a price drop but Front End Audio does frequent 15% off promos. That's how I scored mine, but I'd say they're and excellent deal either way.

And to be clear, I've heard some less than stellar things about the Lindell racks, so when I see the Bento 6 and 10 sell for roughly the same price as a comparably sized Lindell, I begin to wonder about the quality of the Bentos overall, especially when compared to something like the Radials or BAE.
What makes the Bentos better than the Lindells even though they are priced the same? I would assume that you still are getting what you pay for?

I've said nice things in the past on RGO about my Lindell experience, and I stand by them. I used the Lindell fully loaded for a couple of years and it was fine. Then I retired it for the Bento. When I pulled my 506 out of the closet recently to sell it, one of the 15v rails was dead. No idea why. It worked when I put it away. Just sayin... Sound Pure gave me a good deal on my Bento. Nice guys!

How many, if any, of those slots are filled with units that draw relatively higher amounts of current such as preamps?

Also, does anyone have any knowledge of what was upgraded from the Bento 10 to the Bento 10S?

All 10 slots are filled with Capi vp28's and vp26's. I don't know off hand how much current the Capi's draw but I regularly record drums with all 10 going and I've never had issues.
If I remember correctly the Bento 10 has a pretty strong power supply.

A friend of mine received a bento 10 with the right wall covering the power supply bent inward about 1/2", and the electronics very noticeable exposed. He managed to bend it back, and it worked fine, but it definitely made me question their quality control.

Also, does anyone have any knowledge of what was upgraded from the Bento 10 to the Bento 10S? I asked them the same thing by email. Looks like they upgraded the PSU. "The power supply is new to avoid noise during low load green modes."

I've had a filled Bento 10 for over a year with zero problems. I think it's great. The Lindell I used previously, worked ok, but the chassis bowed in the middle after a few months.

I've had a Bento 10 for about 2 or 3 years now with no problem. I've had a Lindell for about a year no problem.
