very impressed with build and feel quality download, install and set up instructions were a little weird ( but I hate gobbler and am spoilt by ua !), but up and running now just using the default ssl , but liking the dedicated functionality, feel and sound: this will get addictive quick !

I'm guessing the EQ isn't a surgical EQ like FabFilter or anything?

Wow. $499 for Console 1 with the SSL channel included. I didn't realize the price was cut in half. That's awesome.

ya the price drop is also impressive and they say no less quality console 1 does have some daw controller functions but I am just getting to know it I got the fp8 for the transport, fader , automation and session control and C1 for the plug control but it does have some control functions for some daws and also automates both for a grand including the ssl channel strip if you are thinking about one, don't forget about our friend Uncle eric at jrrr out in la, very competitive pricing, and don't be shy about asking him about the other channel strips , like neve , if you catch my drift:)

Kcdogg, I've thought about the console one off and on for a while now and it appears to integrate well with Studio One which is what I've been using the most recently. I will be curious to here more thoughts once you spend more time with it.

So, I see you have Logic like me. I am planning to give this a go, especially now with the price cut and the UAD integration. Makes is a no brainer. Also, I think at some point they will include the UAD channel strips as a possible alternative with a special mapping and that will be wonderful. Not that the Softube ones sound bad, I have seen some great reviews already, but it would be nice to be able to put a channel strip I already own (excuse me, rent ;-) ) on every channel if you have the processing power (I have 2 x Quad Apollos and a Quad Satellite). Now that the deal is done to merge the two platforms, it only makes sense to progress towards better integration. The 60! starter plugins is a great declaration of intentions. I saw some ranting and raving on GS about the channel selection via the Console 1 buttons not being synced properly with the Daw unless it's Studio 1? Have you had any trouble?

No probs in logic, the top row channels select buttons are working perfectly as designed in their banks of 20 the only problem I have, is the ssl plug doesn't seem to open normally .. it seems to have installed an application so I have to go open it I would take with more than 1 grain of salt any negative comments on GS about anything My actual C1 functionality seems perfect in logic, but I am still learning how C1 works. It is supposed to be most deeply integrated with S1 and Cubase, those features that get it controlling your daw if you turn on Integrated Daw control ( why would't you?): you get channel Fader, pan, solo, mute and send levels. I can also control the master volume. pg 54 in C1 manual.

So far, I am more using Logic but C1 is supposed to be most deeply integrated with S1, basically it is certainly the best ITB experience I have had.
I do have S1 so will be playing with it too so will post my comments but as said above if you use UA and have been thinking about C1 at all, I'd say go for it

So I'm just really diggin having real knobs to turn and how you can do more than one thing simultaneously , installed the neve 20 day demo today
the owner's manual is relatively clearly written, so going up the how to get it to do things curve , in terms of changing settings is going well too
the logic and S1 experience should be essentially the same as I haven't identified a feature that doesn't work in both and of course the actual plugs ins you are running are not daw dependent.
If I was just trailing this, I feel even over a few days that I would have decided that it would be staying.
So far , I have been just using the ST ssl to get my head around its sound, certainly very useable. a cole of button click pulls up all your other plug ins (UA and ST) that are mapped so far and C1 has a default gui that shows rotaries so you can"see' what you are doing but the whole point of C1 is to use your ears and hands.

I am interested in the sound quality of the channel strip and do they have the SSL Buss Compressor? I am very curious to know if the SSL E sounds better than the Waves stuff?

The ssl channel strips both have compressors so I presume they are modelled on the actual compressors in the boards. You can also run other ST adn so far abut 40 UA plugs, but not waves.
If you want to drop box me a wav file : happy to run it through the ssl for you ?

From c1 manual: so yes channel compressor is included.
"Logic’s 4000 series have been used on more plati- num selling records than all other console models combined! is is for good reason. e SL 4000 E has a signature sound that is transparent enough to work for all music styles, but still adds its touch of luxury. ings simply sound like a record when they’ve been run through the SL 4000 E.
With Console 1, you get the famous black knob E242 equalizer, the classic channel compressor, the very musical gate/expander and the sweet high/low cut lters from the SL 4000 E channel. We also modeled the unique harmonics, distortion and non- linearities you get from running the SL 4000 E into overdrive. Controlled by Console 1’s Drive knob, you can use it subtly on all channels to glue the mix together like a slightly overdriven SL 4000 E does, or not so subtly to add edge and presence to selected sounds.
In addition, you get Softube’s unique Transient Shaper, which is not modeled o the Solid State Logic SL 4000 E or any other unit for that matter. Read more about Transient Shaper in “Shape” in Chapter 4. Softube’s model of the Solid State Logic SL 4000 E channel is only available as part of the Console 1 system and not as a single plug-in."

opened up S1 and the C1 was immediately recognized like normal, instantiate first instance and got a pop up about new features : These are as specified in the manual, but I think I had all of these in logic too ? I highlighted all remaining tracks in S1 and copying over i instance loaded C1 on all tracks. Sfift ALL on C1 is supposed to turn on global change parameters on al tracks so I tried this to switch ssl to neve, but it wasn't working ( it worked in logic), so I probably got the sequence wrong but essentially C1 seem completely operational in S1, immediately on load in.

Was able to use the ALL button to load neve across all channels at once.
Interestingly in Logic , C1 sees the master fader and I can control it from C1 ( master volume), so far, not so of S1 ?

No SSL buss compressor, it's the channel compressor even if you put it on the master buss. Sounds great on the drum bus by the way!
It's essential that you turn Drive to 5 on all channels, to emulate the actual drive of the console. The default is cleaner than the actual hardware.

Just got the Softube Console one MKII and started playing around with it yesterday. I'm using it with Studio One one this first project and so far I really like it. It took me a little to understand that with Studio One you need to click the mono tracks so they are simulated as stereo for anything panned to the right to show up on the console one meter bridge, but once I figured that out, everything else has been very intuitive. I'm looking forward to really digging in with it on this next mix. It's really a nicely built solid piece.
