How much should I spend on a S/PDIF Cable ? Some people say not much , others say $300 ??
At what price point can I get a high quality S/PDIF cable ?
Jim Williams says $300 , but if your recording rock its not as critical........I'm recording rock....some say its the devils music .

I think Jim champions expensive silver Kimber cable, but not really sure there's much difference in digital cables carrying ones and zeros.

Cable run length will make a bigger difference. Just buy something with great shielding.

Count me as a gigantic skeptic of "high end" digital cables.
I'm all ears. If someone can explain to me how the code Gets There with a cheap cable but somehow Gets There In A Better Way with an expensive cable, go for it.

I would be more worried about physical sturdieness and quality of connectors. You can achieve good on both of those for not too much money. Monoprice has a few good cables, for example. Or some of the sellers on eBay.

If you have to spend more than $20, you're paying for snake oil.

Yes you could build it your self, save the $ and use the 3159, you can either just use one conductor, use both conductors as the positive or use one of the conductors with the shield any old RCA should. Do the Canare's are nice, you can find them as OEM on some spendy Consumer cables. I use one conductor and gold plated Vampire Wire RCA's I bought a bunch of on EBAY for SPDIF, no problems!

BLA is what I've always used, their premium version. Excellent cables.
