What a great voice she was... ultimateclassicrock.com/valerie-carter-dead/Wild Child was one of my favorite albums back in the day. Although she never really made it as a solo artist, I was happy to hear her voice on many albums by James Taylor, Don Henley, Jackson Browne et al. RIP Valerie!

Big fan here. Given my age, I was late to the Val party. Her 1996 record she recorded at Groovemasters was my introduction. I think I posted that a few years ago, after stumbling onto some old records, my musical diet was Valerie's three records and The Pages three from the same period. It's nice to know that the best music of an era not being a big hit predates my generation.

James Taylor's fitting tribute almost brought tears to my eyes. DAYUMM what a loss. I loved her backing vocals and counter-parts on end of the innocence. Her voice had no ethnicity of its own, if you know what I mean. It was a world-voice.

Produced and engineered by people like George Massenburg or James Newton-Howard. Featuring Jeff Porcaro, Chuck Rainey, Verdine White, Lowell George... the list goes on and on. Great stuff and totally underrated.

Yeah, I have the 70s stuff....both on vinyl and the hard to come by Wild Child 90s CD master....as well as the modern bliSpec that's more crushed.
Side note, she does Love Needs a Heart on the 96 record--Jackson singing harmony.
