I have always wondered about the Waves plugins. Has anyone compared the SSL Plugs on both platforms. I have heard a few people mention that they liked the SSL by Waves better than the one by UAD. Would anyone care to comment on this please. The reason I ask is because they are selling the Waves SSL bundle for $249 and I was looking at the H bundle as well. I really like that H-Delay & H Verb

There is only 2 times I'll praise waves and that's for Maxxbass and the SSL channelstrip. Everything else besides maybe the L2 I think other companies do better. T-Racks has reallly really good emu's of the SSL series, it's what I use.

I prefer the UAD SSL over the Waves in my own testing. The UAD SSL E Channel is something special to me, really a standout plugin.
And then I prefer the Native Instruments and then the Waves DBX 160 over the UAD.
So it's case by case for me.
For a bus compressor I like the Cytomic Glue. Haven't tried the UAD yet, or Waves. Just started with Cytomic and was happy so stopped there.
Waves and UAD Pultecs rank pretty close to me.
UAD wins for tape machines all day, won't even use Waves any longer. u-He Satin is also pretty good.
1176 and LA2A UAD is top for me, Softube also pretty nice.
Not sure about LA3A yet, don't use them all the time. Waves does sound nice.
Waves and UAD plate reverbs also are complementary, both very good. But different.

I like the Waves SSL too but I hate Waves WUP therfore I own it but its not in use. Next to this is Native.... which I use a lot. Slates take on it is special .... is also used a lot here. The Waves SSL EQ has ha lot of bite, it grabs the signal by the..... For the bus compressor, I love native or slate. If you do not care paying the plug in several times ... go with the Waves.

I've got the Waves and UAD SSL plugins. I prefer the UAD by quite a margin although the Waves are fine. The UAD are less brittle and more analog sounding.

There are other sites with this ssl bundle cheaper. With that said I have not thoroughly tested against UAD but I don't think I can get a bus comp an eq and two channel strips for $180 something from UAD. I am pretty sure UAD is prob 249 per plugin a piece so factor that into the equation as well. Plus the UAD are how old ( waves are older too ) so if there is a mk2 you will now have to pay full price for upgrading at UAD so mrholmes UAD makes you buy twice plus dongle central... UAD is $249 a piece or $449 together! I kinda want to test and see now 😵😂

Sorry, I was just saying that not all of the UAD stuff is necessarily better...
But this isn't Gearslutz...you're allowed to go off topic.

Never used the Waves SSL, I use the UAD channelstrip quite often, I use the Slate SSL buss Compressor on the mixbuss from the start majority of the time, sometimes followed by the UAD Manley comp. I use several Waves plug-ins, just not the SSL stuff, Not yet anyway.

I have noticed that many people using the Waves SSL Bundle and didn't know if it was a Waves promotion to get other people to buy, but then I find myself listening to people that are top mixers in the industry that say the Waves SSL bundle is the way, and some of these people I trust very much because they aren't being paid to say this. I hate when I buy something that was highly respected online, and it sucks when I get it in my space. This has happened too many times and makes he hesitant to purchase. It takes me a very long time to buy now. After seeing the SSL Bundle for $250, I will never buy it for more than that. I hope I don't have to wait too long.

I know quite a few engineers that use the Waves SSL Bundle, although I do not have it myself. I use the Slate SSL Plugins. They're pretty good. To get vibey I use the EQ in conjunction with the VCC-SSL (Brit 4K E or G. I prefer E). The bus compressor is nice too. My favorite is the VCC SSL Mix bus channel (I still prefer E). It really adds nice punchy vibe to the mix. The Slate plugins aren't my favorite and I tend to use my UAD stuff first, but I don't have the SSL UAD plugins and the everything bundle is cheaper than picking up either the Waves or the UAD plugins. Also, the Slate plugins are generally CPU friendlier.
