An old bandmate posted something about wanting to do a george strait covers set. That made me pull Ut the headphones.
I've heard these songs so many times over the years. Just tonight i listened to them on headphones for the first time since i began recording/producing/writing. amarillo by morning sounds almost like a demo. Very early in his carrer and low budgety to my ears. i cross my heart came at least a decade later and the production is stellar. So much space for the vocals without sacrificing the depth of all other elements.
yeah some of those early ones sound really bad. '80, '81 I guess. I think that was Blake Mevis producing those...I was signed to a publishing company he was heading for several years. Nice guy, but not very good with the music stuff lol
It's from the 1982 Album "Strait From The Heart". Those songs were mixed mostly for mono AM radio play (with some stereo FM stations). Not sure what version you are listening to, but I have a more recent version (a lot of stuff you get today has been remixed/remastered) and it sounds great on my studio monitors. I'm assuming you weren't in the business back in 1982, but the recording tools have advanced a lot. Its amazing this stuff sounds as good as it does today.
