It is with a sad heart that I tell you we have lost the Original funky drummer. The man who brought us the beat behind James Brown , Prince's favorite drummer. Clyde was always a gentleman, who always had a great story to tell. I will always be proud to say he was a friend and always remember that huge laughing smile.

I hope Clyde had a good live? Drumming for JB and Prince does not sound bad at all. Who can say this about the roundtrip on earth?

I haven't seen Clyde since, 99-2000, he had health issues and of course no insurance, after his death it became public that a number of years ago Prince had payed off Clydes medical bill for a major operation because Prince felt he owed Clyde for the influence and samples, let that be a lesson to the new generation. Clyde had health issues, I learned recently that he was in dialysis 3 times a week ( hey I beat Clyde I had it 24/7 for a while, got to try to find some humor). Madison wasn't Nashville, LA, or NY, but Clyde, Richard, Davis the guys from Garbage or the Sidrans were all treated like stars and all were approachable, and it always made my day to see any of them.

No health care sucks and I hope one day sanity wins over mammonism in the USA. That is one reason why the US has the lowest life span off all industry nations. Its one reason why I am grateful to live in the EU. Its not the first time I hear this, in different variations, from friends in the US. It always comes down to the same summary: "No health insurance, and insane high medical bills." If I am aloud to daydream: I wish I could hand out my insurance card to any fellow musician and say "use it, its for free".

Did more with one drum than most do with the whole kit.

Such sad news; he was such an iconic, yet underappreciated master of the kit. As I understand it a lot more famous people than just James Brown stood on his shoulders - he was by far the most sampled drummer in the music world and rarely credited. How many famous recordings did his playing show up on uncredited? I seem to remember hearing his playing everywhere during the 90s.
