Guitar - you have a Clarett, right? You still digging it? I don't use the AD or DA on the Apollo, so I've been thinking about dumping it for a cheaper box. Did you compare the Clarett to the the SF or BF Apollo?

Did you compare the Clarett to the the SF or BF Apollo? Yes, I think I prefer the DAC and ADC of the Clarett over the silver Apollos. I have not been able to test the black Apollos yet. The sound stage is huge and detailed. You can't bypass the mic pres, but as a line stage, I think they do just fine. I should get into some more heavy testing in the next week or two. But as far as now, the Clarett DAC is my favorite thing to listen to. I'm going to run the SPDIF out of my Apollo into the SPDIF of the Clarett for my main monitor pair. I think the Clarett is a killer deal. It skips some of the bells and whistles but all the main quality is there. The software is pretty slick also.

Did you compare the Clarett to the the SF or BF Apollo? I'm not sure I answered your question directly. If you're just going to use the Clarett for digital I/O, I think it would do a great job. The Thunderbolt latency is very low, and they give you a lot of digital I/O to work with. My 8PreX for example has SPDIF, and two separate pairs of ADAT for 18x18 digital I/O. There is also MIDI I/O which is a nice touch.

This just all sounds like such a hassle. I'll probably just pass. I would really be shocked if the Symphony mkii was drastically better than the Hilo...and I already scratched that itch and decided it wasn't worth an investment. But I think it's a very personal decision - what you can and can't live without.
Edit: just to add, by the time I sold the Apollo and bought a satellite, we are talking $300 ish. Not worth the hassle.
