Have decided to slowly "upgrade" & need your advice on which MacBook to specifically get.
Have always used, & still have, my desktop (Woodbridge Intel) with PT HD3 system.
Want to start with the computer first & then decide on interface, converters, etc. later. Not even sure if I'll stick with PT or go with Logic or what.
Mainly want the laptop to listen to sessions back on flights, etc. Money is not an obstacle but then again don't want to over do it if I can get something that'll work with all possible scenarios of HD or Native.
Thanks in advance, Ariel

If you can wait, I'd hold off until 3rd quarter this year. Apple is supposedly going to release another MacBook pro version that may be cheaper and will support 32gb RAM. I'd probably just go for that one.

I would wait too. Just to see what they bring out. (Personally I am burning candles nightly for 64Gb Ram, Terabytes of SSD at a better price :-D )
If you are intending to be listening/mixing on the move then you probably won't be looking to use any external connectivity to hard disks, UAD Satellite or similar. In that case I would be looking for the most Ram and largest internal drive I could afford. In fact something like the new product from OWC that combines dock with drives would be a great option. Just as a comment, I don't know what airline you are using but my experience lately is that, unless you are flying business, the whole lack of space between seats makes even opening a laptop to watch a movie on the food tray a bit useless, never mind trying to start moving faders!

If you wait until the 3rd quarter, you might as well then wait for another 6 months, when the next version will be out. But while you wait for another 6 months, you might as well wait for yet another 6 months, there will certainly be an upgrade available. But wait, if you wait for yet another 6 months... See where this is going? Decide what you need and buy it. Now. Or just wait forever and never get down to making some music.

One thing too, the Apogee groove product provides excellent DAC for headphones at $400 new it is pricy but I saw one on GS or reverb for $200.

The best new MBPs are the last crop of 17"s made. Thunderbolt, Firewire, USB, loads of RAM, upgradeable and well... I'm typing on one of mine now.

Seeing how Apple keeps taking the pro out of MBP's I'm not sure if I would wait!

Speaking of Mac Pro it's only going over 4 years for an upgrade or refresh/ redesign 😞🤔... I recommend a 2015 MBP model because they are cheaper and the new ones have touch bars and a huge track pad that is non ergonomic. I don't have big hands but my heel palm kept activating ( controlling ) the trackpad when I was not intending it to, very annoying.
