not to sound like a kush shrill, but I was reading that the 500 electra eq can be ganged up to 8 and that the low pass filter rotary, switches to become a fader, so you now have an 8 channel mixer with fader, eq etc. this sounds very cool: any body use it or know more about it ? I typically use 8 aux in my daw and send tracks to them and then use the 8 aux for mixdown. I am leaning more OB than towards plugs and have been thinking about getting 8 good OB pres, eq and comps, so this electra 500 option is intriguing me. check our Fader mode on bottom right:

Hi there,
Let me preface everything I'm about to say with: you might want to send an email to Kush to clarify the operation of the current production model. Things may have been revised since my initial involvement so the following design insight may not be current.
Being the guy that worked on the original version of this circuit I can tell you that there was no capability for ganging anything per se. What I believe the marketing sheet is saying is that if you want to run 8 channels of Electra into a 8-channel passive or active summing box then you can enable "Fader Mode" on the PCB via the internal switch to give you some output level control. What this does is turn the Low Shelving knob into a fader so that you can do level-matched EQ. It's not a true fader in the sense that you can bring a signal down to -inf. It's more of a trim pot. Our original intent was to do level-matched EQ'ing. I'm not really sure what the bit about pan is. I will say this. The Electra does conform to the Radial Workhorse spec so if you load up 8 or 10 of these into a Workhorse rack with the mixer option then you can have exactly what the marketing sheet is describing.
I think in practice it's infinitely more useful to have the low shelf. That thing is magic for vocal and guitar tracking as far as I'm concerned.
I hope that helps.

Thx Brad I knew you were out here somewhere:) I thought I was probably reading too much into that In your totally unbiased opinion if one were very interested in an OB 2 buss eq that you could also track with and money was an object it seems the Electra rack fits the bill nicely. What's your take on the stereo balancing discussion:non issue, use your ears ? thx!

Hi,
I would totally use the Electra as a 2-bus EQ. I have done it myself. I think I even have a couple customers that put Electras in the inserts of their Silver Bullets. Don't let the price fool you - it's an expensive sounding EQ especially on the top end.
As far as stereo matching goes... I'm in the "whatever" camp. Just use your ears. Run tones if you have to. The frequency content between your left and right channels is different to begin with anyway. Put the knobs in the same spot and if you hear a difference between channels or feel something pulling to one side then tweak accordingly.

Looking to find out more info about this and the new tube emulations. Kush Audio is definitely imo a great developer and compressor fiend who can use the most beautiful adjectives to describe audio running thru his circuit designs 😀 Plus his demo vids are always top notch with great sound examples.

ChaseUTB - Perhaps I can help answer any questions you might have about the Electra? Brad
