Just kindve noticed there isn't much talk of Lavry around here. Anyone have thoughts? Years ago I had a Lavry Blue for a hot Kennedy second. My memory is that he DA was super tight bass and almost clinical top. Any thought on the Lavry Gold AD? It was the industry standard for a while it seems.

Your description is what I remember of the Black! I know a few who still feel the gold to be the gold standard, but they all tend to lean towards the clinical. Lavry tends to get lost in a world of new and improved, plus his theories on clocking remove a great profit center for the gear pimp.

We have the Gold and the Blue. If you liked the Blue, the Gold is seriously twice as good. Light years difference.
If I get a spare couple mins in the upcoming weeks I'll try to record something with the Blue, Gold, and our 192's to give some perspective.

are they converters only or are they also audio interfaces? if they're stand-alone converters, that'll alienate them from a lot of people that don't want to deal with buying a piece of gear that isn't an audio interface.

A lot of gear gets forgotten and orphaned by us. In our defense, there's only so much room in the market (and the rack), so not everything is going to stay top of mind.
Ex 2: Avalon.

I think the 5K price tag for a 2 channel converter is what keeps most people away. It is a hell of a piece of gear, though.

For $5,000 they better mix the song for me!!! Dayammmmm!!! Saw one somewhere for $3200. Made me think twice. I feel like it depends on the situation and room you're working in. It makes sense to have a 5k 2 channel converter in a room with a 72ch SSL, ATR102 tape machine, and classic outboard gear scattered around. Would I buy one for my home mix room? No way. It would be hard to justify even at the $3,200 price range. Lots of other stuff I'd jump on first before making a purchase like that.

In the Audiophile world of $685,000 Wilson Audio WAMM speakers, Lavry Gold is very popular.

Lavry Gold has high latency because of its ultra-high accuracy custom filters.

Lavry Gold has high latency because of its ultra-high accuracy custom filters. It's not a tracking converter due to this but only a final mix converter.

On the other hand, tracking is probably where a converter will make the biggest difference. An analog monitor mixer is really the best solution.
