The Splice is the best sounding 1176 in production to my ears. Mike has done a great job on it.
When he was starting on it a few years back he and I went back and forth with different prototypes changing components and values in order to get the sound dialed in. I can say the first one was not at all like the current model in tone. But after a number back and forths and comparing audio files, each of us modding a proto in order to hear what the other was hearing. He ended up with a fantastic sounding compressor that was well worth the effort.
I was sad that the original 500 got shelf'd for awhile and I am really happy to see Mike has re released it. It is a really great compressor and it nails the sound. It is a no brainer to me. And yes, let the needle swing on these!

serpent audio has a reputation for quality gear. Someone invite the main person over and let's see if we can all get in on some splice reissue action!

He created the Splice 500-MK2 to counter the manufacturing difficulties associated with the MK1. So, go buy a pair of Splice 500-MK2's!! serpentaudio.com/splice-mkii-500-series/

lol it's not a hard build. Mike did an amazing job with the PCB layout. it's a pretty easy build, just has lots of wires for the front panel.

Is it really the exact same thing as the chimera ? And does he supply the T4B ?

The SA3A came before the Chimera.
No, get them from kenetek or another suggested supplier listed in the group DIY build thread

I am aware the SA-3A came before, but was wondering if the Chimera was the result of a downsize to fit the 500series, but still retaining the exact same sound ?

There is no "exact" when changing formats, layout and power supplies. For ANY gear. That said, yes, they are for all intents and purposes the same. How similar or different is in the ears of the beholder. I've got a SA3a, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy a chimera if needed.

Mike had me compare some audio samples he sent me while he was developing the Chimera with his SA3A circuit. They sounded the same to me. I have an SA3A.

The dirty little secret that's not so secret.... That's a market that's virtually wide open for someone to come in and take over. Anyone who makes these who is "consistent" and answers emails and ships product on time could literally clean up. All the normal players are flakes, put out poor quality, and take forever. I'd gladly pay double the going price for a matched pair delivered within a week of order......

I've been in touch with Bill a couple of times and never had a glitch. First time was when I asked for some free advice when building my LA2. The last time was an order of five T4Bs. Fast on both email and delivery.

Bill has always been pretty responsive. Have you followed up and confirmed with him that he is aware of your order?
I think he was also making T4b for one of the other low budget LA 2A cloners. So, it is possible he is totally over loaded with work.
Let me know and I can reach out to him if you'd like.
Also, Chimera is as close as one can get to a real LA 3A in the 500 series format. There is a sonic difference between the SA 3A and Chimera but is is barely noticeable. I wouldn't hesitate to use either on pretty much any source. I LOVE MY SA 3A'S!

Thanks to Dan for the heads-up on this matter. One simple question for ward: Why didn't you contact me about your problem? I have sold over 5,000(!) T4B's and have never knowingly stiffed a customer. If there is a problem with your order I will take care of it immediately. But I have no knowledge of any outstanding fulfillment problems with any customers to date. Thanks for listening!

Ward, PM me or send an email to inquiry@kenetek.com and I'll look up your order. Our system preserves tracking numbers, etc. so I can find out what happened. I see an order on June 3 from someone named Ward and it was delivered June 12. Could that be you? The package was insured if it didn't arrive.
Thanks!!!
Bill
