You into modding? It's just an Apex 460 with the 251/C12 type circuit.

And then the grill looks better, so that's kind of different. And then there's the circuit which is completely different, and then there's the different capsule. But hey, the connector is the same! So, yeah, same thing only different.

The outer mesh is a little more open and the framework is chromed instead of brushed, but the shape and size is identical, as is the backing mesh. The capsule is identical. Swap some parts and some wiring on the 460 board and you have a 251 with 67 type capsule just like the AR51. www.foxaudioresearch.ca/ar-51.htm

Ya the ar-51 sucks for the money the cv4 and cv3 miktek blow it out the water...oh yeah and they are cheaper... I have used the ar-51 on several male rappers and always find sibilance has some type of edginess that is hard to tame. Oh and it's extremely anemic on the LF, 250hz and under, so male vox have no body. I would have to get the artist to stack the vox like 3-4 times where my blue line Thiersch mic is one take presents a great vocal capture full of body and life.
I used the mic with the new style capsule ( ck13 ) not the 67 capsule.. The one I used also had the better tube and power supply... TFunk mics aren't very quality unless you spend $9000.... For me, Flea, Upton, Chandler mic, Rms microphone works / and of course miktek in the same price range would be better money spent and a better sounding mic...

Hey svart + company The AR-51 underwent a design change in late 2012, we swapped out that 67 style cap for an edge-terminated design that I'm sure many of you have seen. This new capsule in the mic extends the low-end, smooths out the top, and introduces a stronger proximity effect. Any AR-51 above serial number 760 would have shipped from our factory with the new cap, and we've since had dozens of earlier mics sent in for a mod to the new capsule. The mic in the Fox Audio article is several years old, a few revisions prior...if that makes a difference to anyone. Well, it has the same shell, but not quite as the T-Funk has a better finish. I was in the vocal mic demo room at B&H in Manhattan last summer. I tried a few high end mics, and the Telfunken AR-51 sounded very good. Smooth, not sibilant. Maybe the new capsule really helped. At that price, I'd sure want to compare to other mics though.
The Avantone BV-12 is the same mic body, beautifully appointed, in a lovely cream color, and at half the price, you could afford to have Shannon mod it anyway you prefer.

I really have to get my video demo of this microphone completed. I just can't tell people how good it is. I use the slate VMS and I feel like this Mic kills the 251 emulation.
