I have an opportunity to buy an AKG bx-20e in great condition for about $2k. It's from a trusted source, and I'd be picking it up myself, so shipping wouldn't be an issue. I'm just curious if anyone has had experience with these, especially from a maintenance/reliability standpoint. This one doesn't come with the remote, but I think I could find one eventually or just make one myself...
Also, is $2k a fair price for one of these? I'm having trouble researching pricing on these since they're not that common.

I've owned one for about 20 years.
Looks like an old 70's drinks cabinet..
I also purchased it without a remote and later picked one up on ebay when it started..
Mine has not required any maintenance, 2k is a fair price nowadays..
Can't comment on the plug in as i don't really use computers..
Nice dark and deep reverb..

i would go for it as long as the price is friendly. if you don't like it I'm sure you can sell it for the same price and walk away being certain that it was or wasn't for you. one sold on Reverb recently for 1500 I think. it did not have the remote either. I feel with a rare, hard to relocate piece like this the location has some say in the price. for instance one in the mid-west would sell for less than one in los angeles. the Reverb sale was in san fran if I remember correctly. I missed out on an bx-10 recently and was sorta devastated. I love reverb.

BOC toured with one in the late '70s/early '80s. Sounded great.

Thanks for the feedback guys --- I think I'm gonna go for it. I'm sure the plugin version would satisfy sonically, but I'm trying to get away from plugins, and stay OTB as much as possible....
Anyone know if the akg can live in the control room? Or does it need to be isolated from speakers and whatnot?

I've had a BX20 for about 4 years It's nice deep and dark. Good on sparser stuff Rock and faster tempos not so much. Interesting I don't use it as much as I thought I would. I actually use my bricasti and EMT quite a bit more. The bricasti is always in there for at least some kind of ambience. But for recall sake lots of waves H,Altiverb, springbox etc.

I was very disappointed by that thing when it first came out.

I have some impulses from one that I use occasionally. Good sounding spring!

How much use do you get out of this thing? Pretty affordable and the samples sound cool (although they're nothing like anything I would work on). Got any audio of this thing in use? What do you use it on? Give me the info!!!

Here's a record that has 2 verbs. 1 is the zerotronics (Its the longer verb) with vp28s for make up gain and the other is an old dual spring racked up by a now defunct (I think) German company called MAM. The MAM is mono in/stereo out and sounds pretty mono. The zerotronics is 2 seperate L&R paths and it's very stereo I THINK it was about like this: The zerotronics got lead vocal, bg vocals, horns, organ, pedal steel. The MAM got lead vocals, snare, horns, gtr. soundcloud.com/skatemountainrecords/sets/jimmy-lumpkin-and-the-revival/s-btvAx
