Is this what we're talking about? He's setting up batch commands to bring up multiple groups, but not individual tracks is specific order. I DID NOT KNOW YOU COULD PUT TRACKS IN MULTIPLE GROUPS!!!!!!! Pretty sure this is exactly what Popmann wants!!! That's freakin' siiiiiiiiiick! you gotta watch that video from the beginning to see how he sets it up, but that is AWESOME!!

Damn, that feature is so killin' I had to make a tutorial showing how to set it up from scratch for every regular logic user!!

Whoa, my head's spinning, but that incredibly cool Chuck. I might only need 1/4 of the things you created, but man, that really good to know of.
It would probably take me quite a while to integrate that into my workflow, unless I had some help creating a template similar to what you demo did. Well done, and thanks for taking the time to do that!
Because I didn't grow with a DAW and my first time using one was only four years ago. It's a little like a second language for me. I get it, but I'm a little slow and often hit roadblocks that take me time to figure out.

Yeah - I can see setting up a "rhythm section" groups as a combination of the Drums Bass and Guitar/Pno groups and their respective auxes, but really with good planning, those groups should next to each other on the arrange window (and therefore in the mixer) in the first place. I don't doubt that for more advanced users, especially those who use a lot of summing busses, NFC's hack is more useful.

So, what you can do is just undock the Groups window after you've assigned some tracks to different groups, and have it floating on the screen and resize it so you see all groups. There's an 'H' column on the right hand side that'll let you show/hide groups from the arrange window (and subsequently the mixer). If you don't need the ability to show/hide aux/bus tracks alongside regular instrument/audio tracks, then just toggling those H's in the Groups window will do the same thing while permanently having the Auxes/Buses always visible in the mixer. So, that makes it easy to 'Hide Drums', 'Hide Guitars', or 'Hide Vocals' from the arrange/mixer view. The key is to keep the mixer set to "Tracks". My hack just takes advantage of the key commands to show/hide groups 1-9 and the ability to assign a track to multiple groups simultaneously. documentation.apple.com/en/logicpro/usermanual/Art/S04/S0473_GroupSettings.pngdocumentation.apple.com/en/logicpro/usermanual/index.html#chapter=27%26section=6%26tasks=trueI'm learning that the Groups feature is pretty powerful, actually. We should all R.T.F.M. more lol!

Having never had Logic 9, it strikes me as irresponsible that the X help manual doesn't include this stuff. What would make the developers think it's logical (pun intended) for the new X user to want to even consider referring to the 9 manual. ARRRGH!

It's in the LPX Manual, but they put the manual in iBooks now. it's not a pdf or website resource anymore, which is dumb.

I will have to look at the "groups"--I assumed based on past nomenclature that how you link faders.....but, being able to assign to multiple groups means that's not likely....so....you're welcome? nah, thanks.... As a side note, the ProX manual is available as iBooks or PDF. I know because I was offered the choice and wrongly CHOSE iBooks, which is doing something to make my old iPad2 crawl. 1500pg PDFs of Cubase and Kronos manuals do fine--actually, literally why I bought the iPad--iBooks (the app not format) is the best technical PDF reader I've found. I assumed Android with its built in first party Adobe reader would....but, not even CLOSE to on par....I digress. You can get it in either format, as well as web content, me thinks.

It does appear the PDF link on their site is dead....but, there is a web enabled version....and read the overview--it implies its going to change volumes at the same time: help.apple.com/logicpro/mac/10.2.3/#/lgcp8e7ab0b8id have read that and skipped the chapter....but, being able to be a me ever of multiple groups seems--well, it can't change the relative volume of it from multiple group masters, can it....? Will read further...

So, you can definately avoid the volume changing with the automation tick boxes for the group....but, is there really no way around the hide all? I opened up the Control Surface editor....balls--I can basically program whatever to any of the buttons....but, I don't see any kind of macro--ie, "Show all.....hide all....show group 2".... Anyway....here's PDFs (scroll down): discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-9401But, it IS for the original release....updated ones through iBooks.

I downloaded the one on ibooks and just like with Martin, the thing brought my iPad to a crawl. The little I looked through it wasn't encouraging. I don't think anything has fundamentally changed regarding groups and track ordering from any on-line manuals I've seen. The search feature on these things are a joke - type 'group' in and this is what you get..
View score symbols View and edit music notation > Add notes and symbols from the Part box Use drum notation with mapped staff styles View and edit music notation > Work with staff styles Multichannel effects Configuration tab Surround in Logic Pro X > Logic Pro X surround features > Multichannel effects View and set articulation IDs in the EXS24 mkII Instrument Editor Advanced edit features > Event List > Edit events in the Event List Select score symbols View and edit music notation > Add notes and symbols from the Part box Use Lane Sets Advanced edit features > Step Editor Create time signature changes Make global changes to a project > Work with time and key signatures Hide tracks Work with tracks > Use the track header controls
A total waste.
I love using Logic and have no intention of moving to some other DAW in the near future - but I'm definitely not a Fan boy. There are reasons that there are choices out there.

Regarding Search in Logic, it's incredibly obtuse. Type something basic, and you get everything but the answer you need, or anything close to it. You get quicker answers searching with google.

I opened up the Control Surface editor....balls--I can basically program whatever to any of the buttons....but, I don't see any kind of macro--ie, "Show all.....hide all....show group 2".... They set up the Toggle Group Visibility so you use it when you can see the mixer and which group a particular track is assigned to. They didn't set it up for use with how I showed in my vid. it's really for you to show/hide audio and instrument tracks in the mixer, but have Auxes/Busses/Outputs visible in the mixer at all times. Honestly, you could assign only one set of tracks to a group, and then show/hide All groups (Ctrl Shift 1) so everything but those grouped tracks is shown, if you wanted to see everything but Vocals, for example. I don't think one extra button press is a deal-breaker. Just assign each button to toggle each group's visibility level. If you have 9 buttons, then you can do 8 unique show/hide groups and one show/hide-all group. Seems like a good compromise with 1 extra button press.

My lins are right....but, if you click them on the BBS, you get soem kind of link optimizer that goes elsewhere....WTF....I went to edit them, but they're right in TXT.
"https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-9401" . for example....remove quotes....

Actually--it got that link, too. But, if you copy paste that TEXT in to a browser....hey Johnkenn john? What's going on with the links, yo? No point in my trying to fool it--once whatever's globally F'n the links--all of the above are actually right.... Side note on Logic....I've now got the "Drummer" playing Addictive kits in real time. So, believe me--it's not that I don't understand Logic--I've just never thought it was very good for mixing audio. I was, once upon a time an Environment programming Logic guy before Apple bought them....even though, honestly--I think the drum sounds are fine in the Drummer. They're not 100% as good as the best....but, the deal is to build one you like and lock it--tell it not to switch drum KITS as you switch drummers. That said--if you set up an instrument track of any GM (mapping) compatible drum sampler.....you can tie the Drummer track to the input of the third party instrument track in the Environment. Why would I think this is important? Because you coudl do that without all the programming with Cubase and Groove Agent (from which they stole a bunch of the UI for the Drummer)....for what 15 years now? That app has never had drum samples worth a piss, but had a good UI for picking and massaging beats....which in turn will follow a non click recorded (ie HUMAN) tempo in real time along with audio....now, the "Drummer" adds the ability for it to auto change the beat to fit selected audio.... Technically, doesn't HAVE to be GM mapped....you can create a custom note map in the Environment....sandwich it into between the output of the Drummer and the input of the sampler....but, man that's a lot of work, when most have a GM map option....but, back in the day, that wasn't so much a standard option for professional sampler libraries....
