Okay I think I have the Neumann 67 bug. I am tossing up between the 3U GZ67fet or the JZ V67 cardioid only, but then I think to myself its only a bit more and I can get a RSE U67 clone for US$1650 ish. But I have to stop somewhere as the budget only goes so far. So who has used the JZ V67 mic or in general JZ mics. I know there are a couple of reviews out there but experience form someone you know of goes a longer way then a magazine review.

Haven't used jz, but I own a violet design mic which supposedly used a jz cap. Sounds absolutely beautiful to me! Mine has the 47 cap, but if the 67 is anywhere near the quality of mine, I think you'll be very happy.

I have an Advanced Audio CM67 with a vintage mod. Ran under $1200. Just reach out to them directly. They take the roll off and turn it into a high end roll off, so you get a modded 67 sound and a vintage 67 sound. I love this mic. Just note, I found cardioid too dark, and ended up notching it one notch toward Omni, for a slightly more open sound, which was more like the sound I was looking for. advancedaudio.ca/collections/tube-microphones/products/cm67se

It sounds absolutely fantastic, my favorite vocal mic right now. It was recommended by Mike Stavrou, who mixed my latest album. I did try it before I bought it though. For my voice, it ate my Michael Joly LDC for lunch and my Advanced Audio CM47 for dessert, though it didn't make them redundant in my studio.
Way back when, I rented and original U67 for one of my records, and it was absolutely fantastic. The v67 has definitely a similar vibe.

Some of the JZ caps I believe were in Blue Mics at one point? The Violet designs Mics do sound good for the money. I don't know how the quality is nowadays after the whole Blue / JZ/ Violet Mics situation, it's been ten years and all original designs came from JZ/ Scruples in Latvia. The violet Mics are still hand made in Latvia and their vin67 cap gets tons of praise! I think the mic is called Amethyst vintage... The JZ Mics are of different capsule and design from my research bit the marketing of these companies is convoluted however it appears Violet and JZ are now separate entities. Yes it was the Janis Zurin who designed the famed Blue bottle capsules as well as the others.... JZ is the original designer of all the blue mics and held patents in EU and from what I can find Blue hired JZ/ Scriples to manufacture/ design/ and produce Mics for Blue. The blue Mics are mostly assembled in California with parts from all over, plus the bottle and kiwi were their ( Blue ) ground up design from nothing so it's definitely weird. Seems the manufacturer ( JZ ) thought he could gain more market share by doing it all in his own dime.
Tlm67 with internals removed and replaced with max at I/o audio' drop in real u67 electronics... boom many who have originals are using the max67's in stereo pairs with their originals! There is a big thread on GS regarding components etc! Search tlm67 to u67 mod or tlm67 mod

I have one that sits on the shelf and never gets used... which reminds me, I have a client that wants it. This thread has prompted me to part ways with it.
Thanks.

You in Oz.... gotta link to the album. cheers Wiz No, I'm actually half a world away, in Spain! I read Stav's book and I got in touch with him for the mixing. It was a pleasure to work with him. Just look up my band "Stormy Mondays" and it's the latest album, double EP. Back on topic, this is Stav's write up on the v67: enmoreaudio.com/michael-stavrous-favourite-mics-of-all-time-so-far/2/

Hey Wiz i can have a link to a track Mike used a jz 67 on. Will send through link on monday when i get back from caravanning in ballina. Got in touch with Mike and he said it was great for live group recording as the cardioid pattern was tight for rejecting other sounds. He placed it in his top 5 of mics for recording.
Yes i looked at the tlm67 option and i think that would be the next step if the budget will allow. Cheers
