To put it into another perspective, an SSL X Rack Eq and Compressor is $2,800.00 with no preamp. So, in this case i'ts a $700.00 premium for the preamp.
I will say this: High End gear akers don't seem to be budging. I wonder if people like Vintech and the other clone preamp makers are going to go in the channel strip business and do it for less. Lots of people bought those units instead of NEVE or SSL or API for preamps. So, would they buy channel strips?

I have held off on even thinking about any eq purchases until these and the LCs come out.

Do you guys believe there's market for channel strips nowadays?

So hows this different to the portico II channel strip? For whatever it's worth, here is a video with Craig Ross discussing the differences:

Do you guys believe there's market for channel strips nowadays? Yes. For me specifically, generally when I buy preamps, I want them to have additional functionality so I can also use them at the mix stage.

Same here but still I'm not sure if people prefer channel strips more than three (preamp/eq/comp/) 500 series modules for example. I like compressing and EQing during tracking but again, I think I belong to the minority

Do you guys believe there's market for channel strips nowadays? What hurts the CH strip market is the 500 series, I can build with the sections I want and buy it as I go !

That's true to a point but you won't be running at the same voltage. My RND Master Buss Processor runs at 72 V, that's an awful lot of headroom, you're not doing that in a 500 series format. My old eyes (not really that old, yet) can't read all those tiny numbers and letters on the 500 series stuff

Fair enough, I'll say it differently: if given the ability to have more headroom (which it does), I'll take it

So hows this different to the portico II channel strip? New transformer based preamp, incorporated some of the 551/552 eq plus silk as well as a new Super diode bridge compressor compared to a vca comp in the portico. Also they made a big deal about the new transformers, pre, and the new comp, so it should be very different if the marketing is true Edit: that's video leaves a lot to be desired IMO and I am in no rush to hear the hi res files. Come on RND show this baby in its true light

I would love to see the inside of that thing. It looks like it will be a nice piece.

I almost pulled the trigger on one last week but opted for a Tube-Tech CL1B. Have always wanted one as I find it to be an awesome vocal and bass compressor. Wasn't sure about the Shelford for that role as I haven't used that compressor before. Also, I use my RND Master Buss Processor for tracking as much as for mixing and mastering so went for an optical comp. Will most likely end up with the RND Shelford too just not at the moment but hopefully soon.
