Just trying to get some tension in some tunes...I need to just break down and buy omnisphere, but are you guys using anything else with success?

I do a lot of time stretching if I need pads. Other than that I have an SK-1 sampler for lo-fi stuff, some fancier VST samplers and the Korg Wavestation vst.
You could always do a Jean Michelle Jarre - get a big FM synth sound and a Small Stone phaser.
