Why no buzz about this mic pre ? Anyone have any experience with it, just seems odd after all the hype of the D4 that no ones talking about it . Seen it on a dealers website didnt say preorder so I assume it to be available .

Not much positive feedback about the compressor either. Had a ton of hype, then pretty quiet.

People buzz on that which has been hyped. RCA has not been hyped like Beatles refuse has. Add to that how small sales are for any boutique company, it's no surprise.

Same with the Retro Op 6 not much info that I've seen , but that's a different price range . Think I'll just keep my GAS for originals 😔 Gates ,Rca, etc

Not much positive feedback about the compressor either. Had a ton of hype, then pretty quiet. I don't know about the Dizengoff comp and the DA2, but I'm not parting with my D4s anytime soon. I think of them as a poor man's V72s. They're my mojo monsters and I'm finally figuring out how to tame them. That said, I am on the lookout for a 1073ish pre to complement them. The Golden Age and Black Lion products are on my radar, but I'm in no rush so my short term plan is to hang tight and see if Bryce at Warm Audio is hiding one up his sleeve. Call me fickle; I really want a 19" rack version.

There's good comments on both units on the RGO thread, "Dizengoff D864 Varimu Comp--Anyone try it yet?" Check it out

Hey Doug, what does the RCA sound like? Chocolate? Round and dark? Exactly how would I honestly tell you what it sounds like? I can only tell you I use an RCA BA-2 more than any other single preamp. I'd use one most of the time for vocals, guitars, percussion, strings, wind instruments, etc over any circuit like the REDD or any of the V70 series stuff. I don't find it dark in any way, in fact the RCA has a small treble boost designed to counter ribbon top end droop. OK, it sounds kinda like the Gates SA-70 but cleaner and less aggressive. So maybe a Coil Audio demo sample sounds something like an original Gates, and that would give an idea. Or not. I could compare it to 50 other vintage preamps that most people also haven't heard, and it would mean nothing. None of them really sound like anything modern, or anything German, except maybe some pre-1950 German stuff like V40 series stuff, which those who own seem to own prefer over V70 series, but again....not enough own it for much of anyone to know anything about it. DA2....different iron, has to sound different, even if it behaves similarly in some respects. I do think I recall someone here had bought one, but (wait for it) I don't think they had anything to compare it to. Classic conundrum.

I'm not sure it says it all, and I'm not sure I used one much with them. If I did use one with them, it gets muddied by the rest of the processing chain. And the mic. They would have gone through a lot of Collins 356A's, various Gates SA series, SS RCA BA-71 and SS Altec 9475. More stuff "no one's ever heard". I think all the time about the idea of posting samples of things, yet there are virtually never any clean samples of anything to pull out of a session, due to the overall processing chain, or the lack of context, or comparative pairing.

I've been enjoying mine since its release. Bass DI is great and throwing a Royer in front of an Ampeg has lead to some great bass results as well. Lately I have been using it for percussion that has a lot of high end like tambourine. It certainly tames some of that unwanted ringing along with a ribbon mic. On kick with a ribbon...boom! Haven't tried it on much else because I have a D4 and Neve 511 that does most other work. The compressor has also become my bass' best friend. The growl and glow switch is amazing. There have been a few instances where I had both switches engaged and wow! These features help the bass go from distant to forward instantly. On other occasions the compressor has helped turn the bass into a beautiful gooey pillow. It may not be a swiss army knife for all instruments but on bass it has been very versatile and is used constantly. Looking forward to the eq that is next in line!

At the risk of derailing this thread...
How close is the Diz D4 to a Mercury 72?
Then I wonder how close this D2 is to what it's also emulating...

Somebody send me a DA2 and I'll tell you how close it is to an RCA. OTOH Blackbird must have 20 RCA's on the shelf for rental.......

My GAP Pre73 + EQ73 is a 19" rack version in their rack case, with 108 dollars worth of carnhill transformers, for my voice I've found it the most pleasing. Great for crunching up the bass too.
Total I am in.. about 580 dollars without my labor. So if WA comes out with a full sweet neve pre then I'd say 599 is that price point to beat. To get the cheapos like me. Cross them fingers!
