I've been wanting to hear the Bronze which is a pre modeled after an La3a comp could be interesting I guess like an ua 1108 pre taken from an 1176 comp

Haven't heard silver, buy copper is currently my favorite vocal preamp. It seems to emphasize all the right frequencies to help a vocal sit in the mix. It's smoother and provides more of a finished sound compared to the Lola.

I currently use an ma-5 on vocals or the lola. gotta say I really like the lola on vox though. it generally beats the ma-5 in shootouts. I have been thinking of doing a combo thing.
using a jlm ba500 and inserting the ba512 opamp. now i'm of topic but I would really like an impedance control on my neve like pre for electric guitars.

The Bronze in front of a JLM LA500 is..... sublime.

I built a pair of Bronze. I'll have to try it in front of the LA500. They are definately a colored preamp, but in a very good way. I find myself using others day to day, but the Bronze does have a nice color.

I've built 4. The pcb quality is great. I opted for the variable pots, and everything works for what i was trying to do. I ended up building API type pres based off some Eisen pres i bought some time ago. Mike is very helpful, and did a great job on packaging.
My only gripe with the Silver is the Eisen DIY kit this was based off allowed for more input transformer options/pin spacings. I found out the hard way the Hairball won't accept Cinemag 75101apc, and these boards sit higher on the frame than the Eisen DIY did. This height difference means the transformer sticks out past the front panel slightly. And you end up not being able to use the covers. Really not a huge deal. Just make sure the transformer you are buying isn't too tall to fit.

I was just looking at these again the other day. I was thinking about loading one up with the mnats 1108 pcb and hairball 1108 x-former kit. The only issue is that you really need to run 2 of them in series to get enough gain (40 db ea I think). The benefit of that is that you'd have a true 2-stage pre. Also, I wish the Elements had the mic/line switch like the Lolas. Am I the only one that misses the old Lola faceplates?

I miss them for sure. the new version doesn't have the same tactile feel. I'd prefer the old ones. if they had an upgrade I'd pay it.
