I use small Condenser mics on OH's. The drummer has a lot to do with the sound, and what mics I choose.

The only problem I had with the M201 was that the off-axis bleed had this incredibly nasal quality to it. It may have been less bleed, but the hat chuff was very audible and annoying no matter where I put the mic. I find the rejection on other mics to be much better. I thought the M179 sounded good, but had a lot of pickup, more like a very wide cardioid, and I had trouble with bleed. I settled with the AT25 on toms. Seems like we are having almost opposite experiences - Are you sure you tried the M179? As opposed to the m177 (I think) - the M179 has multiple patterns including hyper-cardioid. I previously used the ATM25's for years and although I liked them a lot, the CAD's sound much better on toms in my space. Maybe I need to check out the ATM25's again on toms. And sound of the bleed on the M201 here has been much less objectionable than my unidyne 57. I do hear great things about the m80 - would like to check it out

I have a Tele M80. I have used it a lot. I take it to sessions that have very limited eq in the studio for work with one specific producer who likes stuff bright. The M80 is a bright mic. Good rejection but bright.

Coming back to this..
I've just never been totally happy with the m80. I've tried it on everything that I'd use the 57 or i5 on but I always end up using the others instead.

I suppose it's possible that we get so accustomed to using certain things that we can't facilitate something that might be new or better. It took me a long time to get past 421s, for instance.

I dunno. I gave it a year, tried really hard to love it. Tried it on everything. Guess it's going to be up for sale shortly.

Do you have a price in mind? I'll let them know and connect you if it's in his ballpark!
