i know i can just run cubase in 32bit mode but i really don't want to. i'm on a mac. anyone have any solutions for connecting reason to cubase with rewire? don't feel like buying the newest version of reason either. i've got 5 which is 32 bit.

I confess i have no day-to-day use experience with modern macs. But - i would be very surprised if the proprietary rewire protocol supports this. I would try to connect the applications via Jack. I would be very surprised it it would not work, i think i remember it is working under Jack in Linux, was worked on in Windows - and should be working in OSx, which is much nearer to Linux...
