Eh. Well call me picky. I certainly don't like them. Not up to my standards by a long shot. You probably wouldn't like ANY of my preamps! I hear some film dialog guys say the SD's are bright sounding.... I've pretty much been using Grace preamps exclusively for the last 3 years. Love them. Hoping to add a few for some slight color for string quartets eventually. But for now, Grace has my back. I wouldn't call them bright. Be curious which microphones they use. Even using the Lectrosonics wireless they are never overly bright. And those mics are pretty bright lavs. Game of thrones crew uses SD stuff pretty exclusively. A lot of production mixers use the 788T. As with everything in audio, its all a bit subjective. haha

It takes quite a bit to blow me away these days. So much good stuff out there.
But this morning I got blown away. I'm still a little dazed......
Got my TC Electronic Clarity-M. I expected plastic, mass produced semi-junk for $249.00. But honestly,,,,,I don't know what to say.
It's amazing quality, all heavy gauge METAL (except for the knobs and switches I think), feels like a brick house tank and was super easy to hook up and install. Just amazing quality, and the performance is top notch as well.
At this point, I think Behringer CAN take over the audio world if they choose to. This is no Chin*** piece of ****. 10 years ago it would have cost well over $1k, and people would have GLADLY paid it.
It's that good. Maybe I'll put up a pic later.
My only criticism thus far - I could have been a touch larger, but I'm sure there would be those who would have preferred it to be a touch smaller had TC gone larger.
WOW!!!!!!!!!

I use the Zoom stuff all the time and have gotten some great live recordings from them. No worries about the pres from me as much as just getting the levels set on site.
It seems to be the brand most of my friends who teach at the university recommend to their students for quick and easy audio with video.

The original pics I saw were vibrant, and bold, and then I saw a bunch of video's and user pics, and they look washed out - just like this one. All I can say though is that in person it looks awesome - grey's, blues, yellow's, oranges, etc. Those washed out bars are all yellow and goldf-ish orange! Looks great in person.

Where did you get the artist controller rack insert? And 2 SA3As...drool. I thought you had one. Was it you that snagged the one off of reverb? Haha

I made those inserts myself. To match the knotty alder and african rosewood in the room. Yeah, I've had a pair for years, but recently was contacted by littlesicily who offered me another - as he was making room for other gear. And with 4 channels of Splice's, I decided I needed 4 channels of SA's as well. It's pretty SWEET!!!

I bought a pair of FMR RNC’s...but the power supplies are missing! Also an Oktava MC-012-01 with a hyper cardioid capsule, traded a guitar for an Istanbul Traditional Dark 18” and 20” crash, and bought an Avid Omni and HD Native PCIe Card for less than the usual price of either used. I’m going to try the Omni at home so I can do some mixing and editing while I try and decide if I really want to move in and install my Trident console in the basement...

@vincent R.
I got my Lindell 510 MK II Power rack in today.
The good news is it is completely silent!
The bad news is the metal work is kind of shitty. It doesn't fit into the rack in the 19" ears quite right, a little too wide. It's like... 19.2".
My CAPI modules have a gap on the top, they don't sit flush with the rack frame. I had to be careful not to overtighten. They don't line up correctly.
It is kind of a PITA to get the 500 modules plugged in, but this is always something I encounter with these racks. This one was especially annoying, the slots feel really tight.
The power supply cable didn't fit, I had to bend the pins on the 5 pin XLR to get it in. It's also too short, it should have been a 6 foot cable not a 2 foot.
I think I'm gonna keep it and just deal with the physical quirks. It looks great in the rack.
I would probably stick with API, CAPI, or Rupert Neve at this point. I probably should have tried the 8 slot API, but it doesn't have rack ears! At least I couldn't find them anywhere.
Bento/Midas no no no.

Finally received my Thomann order from 11.29.18! At long last both items were in stock and made it to customs in San Francisco in 3 days, then completely fell off the tracking radar after the 13th. Got home yesterday and there it was in all it's glory... Sweet. Somehow both boxes inside appear to have survived unscathed. I powered them up, played some keys/drums through them and everything was functional. Two more contestants for the econo rack of doom...

Bento/Midas no no no. Had the API 8 slotter. Thought the number (8) of modules was a really nice deal for the money. Anyway, big disappointment. Talk about shotty metal work and quality. Just felt real cheap to me. Their original six slot lunchbox was way better. I ended up selling it and bought the RND six slot. Much better quality and very stable power. I wouldn’t hesitate to try out one of those vintage king racks either. Their stuff is pretty good quality too and the connectivity options are nice.

Means when adding and pulling them they don't hit my other gear and vise versa. Mines an internal psu though. TAC makes a great rack as well.

I'm being a little nit picky because it's brand new and I've been through so many of these, I guess. The Five Fish preamp fits just fine. For some reason the CAPI's stick out a little bit. The cable thing was weird, but that would be a cheap fix for a new XLR cable. It fit real tight once I got it in there. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied. It's really not too much better or worse than my old API 500V. I guess you have to be a real connoisseur or a big spender to get a pitch perfect 500 rack these days.

Only complaint for me is no db25 connections and the comp link is always on unless you cut the PCB traces. Otherwise it's rock solid. I'll probably stick with TAC and Capi racks from now on.

I believe they fixed the comp-link in MK II. There are little header/jumpers inside the rack you can pull. The daisy chain switches on the back of the unit feel pretty cheap. They will most likely hardly ever be used anyway. They also added DB-25 on the MK II!! A great feature. I agree, you get what you pay for in these racks. The Midas was so close. The metal work was flawless, everything was tight precise and solid. Just that damned noise. And those things are hideous in the rack. Maybe they'll do a MK II Midas, I hope.

Funny as I had different impressions with the Midas. The switch felt like it could break off. The screws for the modules were VERY tight and thought it was easy to cross thread. I didn't like the stamped metal design compared to the fully extruded aluminum of my Lindell. Everything else was fine. Other than the noise. Oh well. I just sold mine in 12 hours on Reverb. Made money since I got mine from the UK for cheap haha So wasn't a bad experiment.

Loaded the Midas up last night to see if I could get it to produce noise, mission accomplished. The 48v switch on the CAPI VP312 sent it into spurious noise, looks like the DIY pres will stay in my Aphex 4-slot with the inputs fed straight from the mic panel. Compressors were all quiet even gained up stupid, I'm going to normal slots 1-8 to my Audient's 8 inserts. It certainly is blue, the build seems pretty hefty to me and it sure weighs enough.
