This is not to start a debate of acoustic VS electronic. We all know the advantages/disadvantages of both sides. The weakness of an electronic kit has always been, in the view of trained drummers, ( of which I am not ), the feel - especially of the cymbals. Mesh pads have pretty much got the feel down for the drums with heads but cymbals are still lacking.
Those of you using an electronic kit - what are you doing for cymbals? I have heard some people using real cymbals with the rest of the kit being electronic but my thought is that might as well go all acoustic at that point. Anyone using the Zildjian Gen16 cymbals? They seem to be, at least in print, the best solution so far.
I have a Roland V-Session Pro kit that I purchased over ten years ago. The Td10 brain is certainly outdated but I would like to use it to trigger newer software via MIDI. I would prefer to use it to record audio out, in real time, maybe even sending the audio through monitors in my space and recording the room sound with mics, as if overheads. Suggestions for software for this purpose?
Any suggestions would be helpful.

As long its only simple drumming I cant hear anything wrong with VD. If we talk feel, for example a swing ..... in this case the whole idea is a compromise...

I can see the logic of- if you like the feel, convenience and diversity of sounds from e drums with Superior Drummer/Slate/Addictive etc for the sound of the individual kit pieces- using a real hi hat and cymbals. Why not? Put a spot mic on the hihat, a stereo pair over the kit with the real cymbals and hi hat and a stereo pair of mics in the room. Yeah, you're not gonna get a simulation of Avatar Studios in your room, but you have that if you want from the sampler software.

I have edrums. they were good with onboard sounds. when I use SD2, and BFD3, the hi hat is sometimes not so good. I have a halfway decent hi hat stand for my edrum hihat. I look forward to getting some real hihat cymbals, and trying them out someday.

I never really think of it being either or. Usually they end up being a supplement to the production for me.

Charles, what hats are you using? Me or a different charles? My buddy left his roland vdrums at my apartment and we use them on projects with addictive drums. If your productions are pretty complex (lots of synths/vocals/music) that the drums are buried under, you'll never notice the difference. Its only when the triggered drums are exposed that you notice that they aren't real. But then again, listen to this guy finger-drum... START AT 3:30 OMFG!!!!

Maybe I didn't understand the question. Are you referring to electronic drumming or electronic samples?

Maybe I didn't understand the question. Are you referring to electronic drumming or electronic samples? Electronic drumming, preferably recording audio out from the triggered samples, then processing as if the tracks were real drum tracks.
