Got one today. Major improvement on the DA side. To the point that I wouldn't hesitate to use it as my main DA. Was talking to category5 about it and we had the same impression - In comparison to the D-box, the Apollo DA holds up really well. The D-box seems to have a little more punch and a little more extended top end, but there's no doubt this DA is good enough to get fantastic results. I haven't tried the AD yet, but I think I have a splitter cable, maybe I'll run a little test. Lots of little improvements that really bring this unit in a bang for the buck that is really hard to beat.

Please feel free to add some yourself. I agree. It's a significant improvement. I had mine next to my SF Apollo for a week, hoping to not keep the BF but it's a good bit better. I think the AD is at least as much improved in the BF too.

Oh - if you're saying there's another Apollo thread...well, it's not like we are starting so many threads that we have to combine them...lol

I usually just click on "New Posts" so I wasn't seeing it forum by forum, it just looked like two of the same thread in a row.

I haven't tried the new Motu's...I bet category5 has, though. Maybe he can comment.

That will be interesting comparison as the new moto has the previous gen apogee symphony converters but the new apollo has the dual signal path of the apogee/lynx(?) design plus also new converters and the UAD Console tracking front end, if that matters to you.

Maybe but, honestly if Apogee wanted to clear stock on old stuff, a deal with GC pro would be where I would go ! but I was being a cynic BUT all the guys I ever delt with at GC PRo were every stupid thing sounded " great" even stuff I knew was still vaperware ! So I'm not fan and I know the system I did my time !

Speaking of the Sympony, I don't want mine to sound any different than it does. Can't imagine they'd want to change the way it sounds.

I think the workflow of UAD's Console is better. It just feels more intuitive. I'm still fumbling around Motu's mixer. Yeah, I can route any signal to wherever I want it to go, but it does me no good if I can't figure it out, and fast. I don't particularly like fumbling around with this thing in front of clients during a session. Makes me look like a chump. I know I need to learn it better. I'm just always out of time, and I like intuitive workflows.
To Motu's credit, the i/o options on the 16a beat the Apollo 16. There's not much going on behind the Apollo 16 in terms of flexible i/o.
I do know that the Motu sounds really great. I can't imagine that it totally slays the Apollo 16 mkII though. I'm sure they've got to be somewhat comparable, right?

I haven't heard the apollo 16 bf but people who have compared it to the new BF 8 (that John just got) say the apollo 16 bf is better (it has top of the line DA).
I would think the moto 16 and apollo 16 bf both sound very very good !
Like John mentioned earlier, people think a Console up date (2-3) is in the wings and apollo users have been requesting more flexible routing and expanded midi for some time.

If they could allow console to be controlled by an HUI, that would be pretty slick.

Gannon the UA rep is from Avid and I thought after he went over to UA some other avid people went to ua as well. I was always hoping that was to further develop console midi ability or to develop a ua controller but that was just wishful thinking on my part

You have to think that a midi controlled hardware console could be coming. How cool would it be if it looked like a 610A?
