After much research, I purchased a Miktek CV4 and sent it to Shannon Rhoades for his 251 mod. My wife and I needed a long weekend/get-a-way so I called Shannon awhile back and asked if he could time the completion of the mod for when my wife and I flew to Nashville from Austin, TX. Shannon obliged and had the mic completed as promised. We were invited by Shannon to his "Mad Scientist Laboratory" and were able to try the mic out before we took it home. Shannon had a stock Miktek CV4 there so my wife sang through it first. We both thought it was a nice mic. Then she sang through her modded mic. WOW-the difference was substantial and immediately noticeable. That modded mic just was way more pleasing to the ear is how I can best put it. More bottom, depth, smooth top. It was just all there and so nice. My wife has a bit of a thin voice and Shannon immediately picked up on that and spent the next 20 minutes or so making some adjustments and fine tuning the mic just for my wife's unique voice. She now has a custom, high end mic voiced for her. How cool is that? Shannon was kind enough to introduce us to some cool cats (Nice to meet your John Kennedy, Randy Kohrs, and others). He even showed us around some studios and such in Nashville. I'm now leaving 3 more mics with Shannon to mod and they will be the staple of our studio! Thank you Shannon Rhoades for your brilliant work and for being such a great host. You are genius!

Ha, funny you mention prices. Sorry boys but I encouraged Shannon to increase his prices as I truly believe his work is worth much more than he is charging. With that said, I'm honest enough to say I encourage him to do so AFTER my other 3 mic mods are complete! Ha Yeah...he sucks. Keep the prices down

Instead of creating a new thread, I thought I would bump an older one. I just got my 2 vintage Neumann (circa 1980) U87s back from Shannon. He fixed one from a total ugly death, and now both work beautifully again. I can't say enough good things about his work. Good guy too, and his side man Curtis.

Very cool, would love to see before and after pics! Yes Shannon is the man besides being cool he’s honest, I don’t know anyone who has talked more people out of sending him work based on being told what he can actually do or cost of getting it to where the client wants it.

Reviving this thread because I just got a Shannon modded CV4 second hand, wow what a mic! It’s in the vein of a 251 and easily one of the best mics I’ve heard!
I have a question for you guys that have one of his modded ones as well. Does he leave the stock Telefunken NOS EF800 tube in the mic?
The tube in mine doesn’t have anything left to identify it as far as writing on the tube. It has the Telefunken diamond logo on the bottom and the internals and pins look like a picture of an EF800, but I want to be sure. I could provide pictures if that would help someone confirm the type of tube it is.
I’m asking this because I’d like to find a spare tube to have just on the slim chance that the one in the mic decides to quit on me. Thanks in advance!

You can find tubes for less but to get where you want you will spend a lot more.

Man, talk about a guy who had the mic business in the palm of his hand. Totally nice guy too. Too bad his inner demons ended up taking it all away and hurting so many in the process.
