Whomp Whomp...I finished and it's not passing any sound. Everything is lighting up, but no sound. Gonna try to go through and make sure I didn't solder any of the caps the wrong way. Are there any "first thing I would check" suggestions?

Check that your transformer wires are going to the correct hole on the PCB. also touch up every solder joint to make sure you don't have any cold joints.

ok...really dumb question...is solder supposed to bleed through to the other side on every one? I notice a lot of mine don't...

Doesn't have to..... but its best to get a good flow thru so you don't get broke or cold solder joints. One thing that can speed it up is if you get yourself a flux syringe and come down all the pads just before you make your solder runs, it'll pull the solder thru better and faster but you'll have to do some flux removing after you get all the passives done.
Does the signal light come on at all??

No, signal light didn't come on. Double checked wiring on tranny's. Seems to be right.

Are the P.S.B. labeled differently for Litz transformers?
The Color coding for the litz are different.
There should be a diagram.

I don't remember the build for VP28s but don't you need to install the op amps before it will pass signal? Or is there a mid-build test step? your op amps aren't installed in the pics..

You went by the conversion wire chart right? For the output trannies? I think there is one for using the Litz, I could be wrong though.

Make sure your diodes are facing the right way, as well as that chip being oriented the right direction. I would hit every component from the back side of the board with the iron and some more solder, just to reflow it all and make sure the joints are cool.

The legs on those diodes seemed to be awfully close to the joints of the switches.
Some cables on the xformers seem to have melted a bit so if there is bare metal check that there isn't a short.
Could be the pic but there seem to some solder residues so use magnifying glass and check for shorts.

Can you explain a little further what you mean by the diodes being close to the switches? Do you mean the on the back side, the solder joints might be touching? You mean the red/black diodes? Yeah - so the melt that you see is because I didn't really have a wire stripper, so I melted the plastic coating on the wire a bit and then stripped. Maybe I'll go by a wire stripper and re-solder all of those. I left enough length because I was scared of screwing it up. Do I just use alcohol and a q-tip? |

Yes, re-flowed and added solder to every joint. So, now when I crank it up, I'm getting the green signal light coming on, but barely no signal coming in. The output doesn't seem to have any effect, but I getting signal when I crank the input. So - does that mean something is screwy with the output transformers? No, unfortunately didn't buy the jug. |
