So I was hoping Cubase would have this figured out by now but apparently not.
I'm trying to send my whole mix back into a track to print without hitting my converters. My brain tells me there should be two possible ways.
1. Send all tracks to a group track that is routed no where, select group track as the input source on another audio track, monitor it, and send that output to my DA.
The problem with this is that Cubase won't let me send my FX tracks to a group track so I won't have the FX printed to the new audio track.
2. Setup multiple outputs, select the output of the master track as an input for the new audio track and send the output of the print track to a separate output track for DA. The problem with this is that Cubase won't let me select an output track as an input source.
How are you guys doing this? Or do you always run through converters before it comes back in?
It seems stupid to me that you can't send your FX channels to a group track.

nevermind. apparently when cubase connects fx sends automatically, even if they're not activated, you must remove them so they won't create a potential feedback loop. once i removed them from the group track i wanted to rout the fx channels to, I was able to do so.

I just export to wav file from my stereo output and check the box to "import file as new track". My converts are not involved. Or do I misunderstand your question?

Yeah, you're not hitting your converters to render the stereo bus....which can be switched to "real time export" if there's some discrepancy in an offline bounce's sound from what you're monitoring.
But, also....a new audio track can have an input of "outputStereo" so long as it's assigned to NOT THAT output bus....so, technically speaking, to do what you want to do you want a second stereo output buss...which just requires more than a 2x2 interface with the ability to route/mix on it's internal mixer for monitoring--but, if your monitoring "stereo Out #2" but all the track and group and FX channels are going to the default "Stereo Out #1"....the new audio track should be set with an input of "St Ou 1" and and output of "St Out2"....I just set it up really quickly to make sure it worked as I would expect it to....it does--real time recording of your stereo output bus to an audio track.
But, again....that's not necessary to not "hit your converters"....and it may or may not complicate solo'ing and advanced use of Control Room monitoring functions. Or it may not.
The only time I've done real time RECORDING of a mix to an audio track was via RME's Totalmix "loopback"--to sum there--sending 10-14 channels to the RME and having it return stereo to Cubase. Other than right now to test this for you.
