Check out this track just released, our man Dan dandeurloo produced, tracked and mixed this tune, he used his own gear that he basically built almost entirely by his own hand, from mics, to console, to converter mods, to power amps etc, i'm blown away with the sound quality! Selfishly, the sonics on this excite the hell out of me, because of the great advice/help/hardware that Dan has hooked me up with, i've built some serious ace pieces, it's a totally viable possibility that I may be able to achieve sound quality resembling this from my own studio when it's done!?!?(especially if i can get him over here to mix haha 8) Just to be clear, Dan built practically every piece of gear in his studio, without his knowledge and assertive enthusiasm in the DIY pro audio world, collectivecases.com/ guys like me would be paddle less......, his new Zod DI is just unreal sounding, it takes my already killer true 1972 Jazz bass to another level (disclosure, i'm in no way tied to Dan, I happily pay for every piece i've gotten from him, though I haven't paid for advice/direction thats worth far more than the hardware i've purchased, I also def consider him a good pal! 8) Thanx for all your help on my stuff D, hope i didn't embarrass you too much with this haha, congrats on this! Seriously man, the sonics on this are just friggin sweet! You should give us a little inside scoop on some gear and techniques you used on it?

Saw that a couple days ago. Very nice. I especially like the BGV's and the tone of the fiddle....

Yes! Sonically this is top notch first class stuff. Congratulations Dan, excellent job man. Dan is a good dude. He also happens to be a neighbor and his advice is as clear as his productions. That guitar is just sitting at such a perfect spot and those fiddles are smooth. Its good stuff.

I need to throw in Dan held my hand when I first got into DIY. Since then I have sold 3/4 of my factory made pro stuff in favor for my carefully selected high quality parts builds. He especially helped me tremendously with my D-la2a and was a total inspiration. So its awesome that dude just showed us whats up.

Not my cup of tea, genre or mix style wise, but I can tell the sonics are there.

Superb work Dan, it's beautiful. Funny, there are so many good things about this, but I noticed the bass and like how it sits.

This is great!
However, when I listened to it on the laptop, it sounded like the lead vocalist was standing about 4 or 5 feet further back from everyone else throughout the whole song. Everyone else is nice and close to you when you listen, but he was further away.
Is this instrumentation pretty standard for a bluegrass group? It reminded me of those Goat Rodeo Sessions with Chris Thile and Yo-Yo Ma, but with a vocalist.
I listened to this 4 times in a row. It really is an excellent everything. I hope their whole record is as great as this tune!

I hope their whole record is as great as this tune! I'm certainly not hearing the lead vox sounding that far back in the mix. It's tucked in nicely so it's not overbearing, but it still sits in front when I listen to it. Dan does great work. I hope this turns into something for all involved.

something also to remember is that in this day and age, the band ultimately dictates the esthetic, the LEAD vox are probably the least strongest element in this track(no offense), it makes sense that you don't put the weakest element out front, plus a lot of singers who aren't "diva type singers", like to tuck their voices back in mixes, i've had dozens of borderline arguments with singers telling them they need to have their vox more out front..., and always seem to lose the argument.
that said, the 2 records that came to my mind when i heard this track was also the goat rodeo sessions(which won a grammy for engineering), and Alison Krauss PA record, for this track to even evoke thoughts of that pair is as big of a compliment as an AE/P could ever get IMO. Wait till Dan gets his new rooms built

it might be because I'm used to hearing pop tunes with the lead vocals up super loud and up front.
