Watched the videos. Couple of good editing features added but nothing much else new here IMO.

No big 'wow' features.... but I'll really appreciate these new features:
-separate markers for punch in/out (including being able to use both sets of markers for looping punches) -ability to add multiple fx tracks at once -ability to set ouput routing when adding tracks -'edge' zones which allow you to easily view/hide the inspector, rack, etc. -have new group tracks added below existing tracks instead of at the bottom of the track list -customized ruler appearance -improved inserts/edit buttons -lots of cool stuff for midi drum editing -easy event duplication -customized naming schemes on batch export -improved track duplication naming with (D) instead of 'Copy of'
Much of this stuff is pretty minor, but I think it will add up to significant time savings for me....

Now, if this was Avid, people would be bitching about having to pay for new features. Lol. The punch in out markers are nice. Speaking of markers, I wish there was an easier way to add markers and see them at the top ala pro tools.

It could easily be argued that many of these 'features' are no-brainers, that should have already been there....... but whatever the case, I'm glad steinberg is focusing more on workflow improvements than new synths/plugins/graphics/etc.

If it was Avid people would have waited at least 5 years and paid $599 instead of $50...

You can put them in the top of your screen or have them attached to your Transport wherever you want it, John.

Not sure there's anything in this that entices me to upgrade.

It's a $300 upgrade for me....and I lose my MCU support to boot.
Requiring OSX.10/11 is a taste of the future of Apple in DAW use age.

Great improvements - These will be big time savers for me! Especially when setting up mixes with large track counts for clients

Edge zones looks pretty cool.
Batch export naming is pretty cool, but honestly....did they ever implement an "ignore plug ins and channel settings" on the batch export? When would I ever want to export processed tracks? That would be the exception to the rule. I just want a consolidated time stamped BWAV. One of the few things I think Apple improved with later versions of Logic. does exporting a mono track assigned to a stereo buss still create a stereo WAV? Maybe they've fixed that stuff in previous versions....
I did find Sweetwater has the 6 to 8.5 for $249, FWIW.

-have new group tracks added below existing tracks instead of at the bottom of the track list I had been wanting this for a while, but now I've kinda changed to mixing into stems and then adjusting them accordingly...

Cubase 8.5 is last version to be 32-bit compatible
December 8, 2015 For many years now Steinberg have maintained both 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility throughout their product range. With the release of Cubase 8.5, these transitional times are slowly coming to an end. 8.5 is the final version in a long line of Cubase increments to support 32-bit Windows and OS X environments.
Future Cubase releases by Steinberg will solely embrace 64-bit computing architecture.
The reasons are evident. 64-bit technology allows more memory usage while improving memory accessibility and allocation to ensure faster processing features. This in return presents you with unprecedented software stability and reliability. The demands that you place upon software are high: not only do you expect its capabilities to continue to meet the constantly increasing needs, you also want to be assured that today's investment will be safeguarded in the years to come.
64-bit computing is the answer.
