I HATE having to put this in - the infractions over at Gearslutz were ridiculous, but there needs to be a clear way to determine when I'm going to ban a member. So, I'm implementing a "three strikes, you're out" policy. You will be the only one that sees your warning level and I will determine when and to whom it is applied. I hoped that we could all operate in a civil manner, but...oh well. The thing that will get you there REALLY quickly is abusive language towards someone else. I don't care if you curse or are arrogant or whatever, but purposely attacking someone won't be tolerated. I thought "Don't be an asshole" covered it, but there's a difference in disagreeing and being threatening.

Thx John, I think it important that we maintain the spirit of passionate discussion and debate, yet agreeing to disagree (if need be) but also ensuring we treat each other respectfully. If people leave this site feeling insulted and/or maligned (directly or implicitly); what is the point ?

Damn. I must have missed some drama. Me too. On a different note, doesn't "Don't be an asshole" unfairly discriminate against us assholes?

Anyway, there's an idea for yet another site - though it will eventually end up creating it's own death spiral ..until the last ass-hole is standing.

It was the misuse of those powers that were the problem. What I'm asking is not difficult.

I don't know the whole extent of this on the entire site, but a few weeks back me, Tony, and jazznoise got into it a bit in a digital audio thread. It went way too far, and honestly it was sort of disturbing how ugly it got. I'm sorry that I was a part of that. Definitely some bad vibes in real life away from the computer. Anyway as far as I can tell we're all chatting and everything is fine and cool now.

It's inevitable John, just do your best to keep it on the rails, I think everyone understands, and can appreciate the difficulties involved in running a forum.

Well, it's hard to please everyone...let it go and people get pissed. Put in a warning system and people get pissed.

Its not complicated, you are just talking about civility and us being held accountable by you for being reasonable civil; is that really so difficult ?

I didn't see it either, must have been when I was out of the country.
I don't mind some kind of peacekeeping thing like warnings for bad behavior. I only get leery when it starts becoming a way for mods to control honest opinions, like what was happening over at GS.
I don't think that will happen here at all.

I only get leery when it starts becoming a way for mods to control honest opinions, like what was happening over at GS. I don't think that will happen here at all. I don't foresee that happening here either. At Slutz, they'd give people grief for asking some very pertinent questions that someone just didn't like. Those questions and responses were often not rude, not obnoxious, just someone pursuing a line of logic, and they'd still get deleted. I think it just ruffled some weird mod's feathers. Basically, they'd shoot the messenger all too often there. Then, there were times people were abslotutely trolling, not trying to contribute to or forward the conversation, just disrupt and insult, and enjoying it too, and the mods would do nothing, despite many calls for help. That got tired really fast.

It's a great idea, keeping it discreet is extremely respectful of John. Most other forums, audio or not that I'm part of would never do this. At some point people have to be held accountable for their actions towards the fellow man if they're being out of line and making it hard for someone to enjoy a place like this. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to berate someone in a public forum because of a different view, and it surely isn't going to make some of us respect you or admire what you've done. There are far more worse things in life to get heated over, this should be somewhere that people can ask anything they like, have any opinion they like and not have to stress about pressing the reply button.
Good on ya John.

The sad thing the moderators did nothing about it. I left by myself the one who attacked me stayed.... In most cases moderators do not mderate. They chime in and they start doing something to late.

This is your place John if some one breaks the asshole rule you are the judge and jury no if's or buts. Slightly of topic I don't quite get how we are not hanging on to newer members once people get over 50 post's it's all good but if they don't get there hmmm. Wish I knew the answer this is a great place and would love to see it grow.

I'd hope we're all good, no beef here Monkey! A warning system is fair, as it also lets you distance yourself from it. At least you feel like you have a recourse which is fair.
While we're on it this subject, I'd much rather I had a better thingy under my picture. That was a long time ago.
Obnoxious Weenie would be fine

Good move John. I love that people here discuss stuff in a civilized and brotherly manner. People here help each other out, meet for a beer or two and play on each others' tracks. That's the spirit of RGO! There have been a few instances where 'asshole-ism', or maybe just plain old frustration, reared it's ugly head, but this place deserves better. If you need that, feel free to play at GS. For RGO, everyone, please keep this place enjoyable.
