Just got my pico pair --- glad to see the holes already drilled for adding the transformer. Should be easy to wire directly to the pcb; just have to remove some little jumpers.

Just got my pico pair --- glad to see the holes already drilled for adding the transformer. Should be easy to wire directly to the pcb; just have to remove some little jumpers. I finally wired up one of my PICO compressors with the Cinemag CMOB-4L. You just have to remove the two jumpers at PS +/-, and wire it up as per the pic below. Mine must have been drilled for the larger Jensen transformer because the holes didn't line up, but I just used one screw, and it seems plenty secure, although it would be easy enough to drill another hole. Compared to the transformerless version, its a good bit smoother, but less hi-fi. It rounds off some transients nicely, and smooths out the upper mids quite a bit.... pretty much what you would expect... makes thing less pokey. I like it Here's a big pic in case anyone is interested in modding theirs (takes like 5 minutes).

You should wire up a switch for the HPF in the Sidechain as well. I did that to mine and it made it much more usable. There is a jumper on the PCB so its easy to do.

In short. Not anymore. I used to have racks of specialized coloring crayons, some of which were compressors. I was hybrid before that had a name. Going the other way. Clean. Crystal. Because I turn on modern recordings and just hear this heap of filth all over everything. I want pop/rock music produced like modern jazz is....clean and rich and open. I'm going the other way. Having been a very "clean" type with a very clear open sound, I've decided to go the other way and have been buying very colourful outboard and started hand tinting my movies so to speak and getting a warm involving sound. Which is great - we're all heading in different directions all the time - it would be a pretty grey world if we all headed in the same direction!

I bought an RNLA on eBay the other day, they're sweet. Don't care for the RNC but if you grab an RNLA and two of the PBC-6A that's four channels of really sweet compressor in one rack space. Couldn't resist.
