Those walls aren't 2x2" pieces, FWIW. I seem to remember when they were going up, they are actually a single board floor to ceiling, slid together over metal rails running parallel to the floor. I'm sure if someone is interested, John would confirm....or tell me I was imagining things....but, it made an impression on me because I thought about the amount of planning that had to go into it--to get those randomized lengths but then transpose that into 20' (or however tall those ceiling are) pieces. Number them....label top and bottom.... Did he take some with him for his new place? I notice it's not all around anymore. Or did they think it better tuned with less? This is how it was when he built it: akmedia.digidesign.com/digizine/images/GML-blackb_dzn_22386.jpgRecall that it was someone who had been there and he had the feeling to be surrounded by 1000 Zulu warriors and had a little hard to concentrate on the music

Does it sound like a big room? I'm going to make a recording/control all in one room soon, and I'd like to know if massive diffusion works to make the room sound bigger and decay more smoothly.

I didn't think it sounds bigger. That's largely a function of reverberation. Size-less is probably the best description. It's really very reflective.

What Sir Bob said is right(with those diffussors), but they CAN help in tricking ur room into sounding larger by not allowing conditioned spacial cues to inform the ear, then when u turn a mic off axis, or away from a source, ur super smart/sophisticated hearing won't pic it out as BS as easily hope this makes sense btw I have six of the BBC types, they make for beauty no doubt, very useful tools

Yeah, I thought it was weird because you never "felt" the thump in the low end...

The room can be a little disconcerting... I felt a little uncomfortable in there. l mentioned it as soon as I walked in. Hard to describe ... It felt "pressurised" it it didn't sound bigger than it was... The reverse to me...but weirdly as John says "disconcerting". i will write more when I get home. cheers wiz

In that room you would not have any of you normal ambient spacial clues so it would be very disorienting.

The room can be a little disconcerting... no doubt, anytime your ear/brain can't give you an instinctual understanding of your surroundings you will feel uneasy, that sense was historically critical to survival, and it's been genetically inherited to you over time, if they didn't feel that sense, your ancestors would have been dinosaur food. the great thing about that room, is it allows you to artificially create any space you desire AFTER the fact, and gives one ultimate sonic control come mix time, something George Massenberg is into, i get that personally, but i still swear there is nothing like a real space giving you exactly what you want in real time, you just can't artificially create spaces as well ime

Hey everybody.. Jo put together the photos from the get together and I have zipped em up and put em on dropbox. Jo's Photos from RGO dinner
She tried to get everyone... bless her... It was such a great great night... really. I am really starting to miss Nashville, and Jo said the same thing to me yesterday.. We both felt "at home" there. I am truly truly grateful for all the warmth and generosity shown to us whilst we were there.. (hand on heart) thank you all. Its starting to sink in, all that we got to do whilst there for the 3 weeks.. no wonder I immediately fell sick when we got back, I was running on fumes at the end 8). One of the best times of my life, for sure. cheers Wiz

Sounds weird to hear the vocals and instruments all verbed out and the drums dry as all get out. Sounds like a rough and not a record. Maybe it is.

I went to buy her album on iTunes. Listened to the samples on there and decided against it. It is absolutely slammed up against the ceiling to the point of distortion. Tragic that the rough video music sounds better. A testament to our state of affairs in music today.
