Oh I forgot a great quote from my mother on the phone when she was checking in with me, "I'm glad there are other people out there like you in the world."
I guess that pretty much sums up the vibe of my whole trip. I was so f'd up/excited I could hardly sleep at the hotel. A truly humbling experience.

BTW, that's Guitar in the yellow with the Phish moves... He picking up some cougars too? Yup she was all over me. She snuck up behind me. When I started dancing with her she was quite a bit more bashful. Possibly even more drunk than I was.

Those difusors are awesome! I want them badly. Like everywhere in my abode. Time to find an out of work carpenter, the build is easy but gets old really fast ! They are heavy as hell! Tony likes to use a miter saw , I prefer a small band saw ! Here is the cool thing the wood for these can be found for free! I have built a tone out of lumberyard scrap ! I'd offer to build a bunch but the shipping would kill you !

The diffusors in Blackbird C were made from some kind of MDF or something. It wasn't "wood" as we know it. Also, the "spikes" are actually pretty big, maybe 1" wide by 1" thick. Each cut was rounded, so these were definitely made by a CNC router of some kind.

Those walls aren't 2x2" pieces, FWIW. I seem to remember when they were going up, they are actually a single board floor to ceiling, slid together over metal rails running parallel to the floor. I'm sure if someone is interested, John would confirm....or tell me I was imagining things....but, it made an impression on me because I thought about the amount of planning that had to go into it--to get those randomized lengths but then transpose that into 20' (or however tall those ceiling are) pieces. Number them....label top and bottom.... Did he take some with him for his new place? I notice it's not all around anymore. Or did they think it better tuned with less? This is how it was when he built it: akmedia.digidesign.com/digizine/images/GML-blackb_dzn_22386.jpg

listen to how great the audio is on the phone in studio C, thanx for posting Monkey! Yes I could feel my ears go completely relaxed when we were in there. There was also some sort of cool air coming out of the walls or something which added an eerie sort of effect to the place. I also liked that their hardware reverb selection was cheaper Yamaha and Roland stuff from the '80s and '90s. Seems like they must be using a lot of ITB reverb and delay in that room, is my assumption. The rest of the mixing gear was typical opulent John McBride creamy goodness. I spotted a really nice API console in one of the smaller rooms, just gorgeous. We weren't able to go in the largest rooms because there were sessions in progress. It's an electric sort of comfort to be in the vicinity of so much world class equipment. Stuff that's built really well like that has sort of a monolithic feeling about it. Something you could easily get accustomed to I'm sure.

The pictures from the rental room are unreal. Just stacks of awesome gear. I hope I can check out that place someday. Really jealous of y'all.

As I mentioned, they are about 1"x1" on the ends. Also they have a 9000J in that room, a lot bigger than whatever that is in the pic. The ATC monitors are a lot bigger too, with double woofers on the front left and right.

how deep were the deepest wells? they look up to 3-4 feet deep? I'll tell you they musta used major psi concrete in the foundation, and some special sub wall construction on that sucker, i believe a 1" piece of MDF (medium density fiberboard) weighs about 130lbs, so rough figure that room is how deep? if it's 30' long and 16' tall, that would be a whopping 93,600lbs in MDF for just the side walls!! yikes, not to mention it must be a nightmare to keep clean...? Absolutely amazing room though, my goodness, i'm so bummed i didn't make the trip....

You should come next year! I hope that can happen.

There is some kind of support structure behind them but it's hard to see. They have everything covered up and finished pretty well. Really excellent carpentry work.

Oh and if you really want a fun time, just ask Svart about his sewer robot stories. Yes svart has designed sewer robots! Am I the only one that thinks Sewer Robots would make an awesome BOC song title? Cheers, Geoff

I laughed myself silly the first time I was in that room because I've been trying to get the idea of diffused flat reflected response walls across for years and George had taken that to the limit.
If I remember right, it started out with an Oxford that was soon replaced by an Icon running Sony Oxford plug-ins including his own eq option that they still sell. After he left, the Icon was replaced with an SSL 9k.
